this is coming from a discussion a friend of mine and me have been having.
who is the best joker: Cesar Remero (1966), Jack Nicholson (1989) or Heath Ledger (2008)?

They all played a different kind of Joker so there is no best imo, but I did enjoy Heaths Joker the most personally.

Heath Ledger hands down, no contest. I always disliked Nicolson's Joker because he was too funny and likable. It was more like a caricature and a joke than what the Joker is really like in the comics. Ledgers Joker was pure evil, sociopathic, and psychotic. That is what Joker is, a freaking madman. I am just so sad he is dead. Damn Ledger for being dumb.

I also hate the old 60's/70's Batman show and deny it's existence.

Ahh- Cesar Romero was an excellent Joker..... He was just plain silly, as well as very extravagant with everything.

Ledger is certainly closer to what the comic book Joker is, but Romero is just so carefree and delighted with everything in his role as Joker that I choose him!

By the way, thank you for including Romero in the choices; most threads that I see like this only have Nicholson or Ledger as choices.

Jack Nicholson, but an honorable mention definitely goes to Mark Hamill (and I'm not the first to mention it I see)

The reason I chose Nicholson was just because he played more what I always thought the Joker should be. Heath Ledger is great, easily the best part of Dark Knight, but I still prefer Jack Nicholson. He's more of a Joker, and I think Heath Ledger did a lot to make the other jokers of the past seem like.. well, a joke. But if you really like Batman, go back and watch the original Batman, and you'll see that Nicholson certainly has chops.

I liked the interconnectivity between Bruce Wayne and that Joker

Where's the Mark Hamill option?
sorry but he doesn't count he's only a voice....
if you can voice the joker for a cartoon as well as Mark Hamill can, then you can talk like that

until then, stfu.

Heath Ledger was amazing as the joker. The Dark Knight probably wouldn't have done nearly as well if he didn't play the joker.

Heath Ledger is the BEST.
The Dark Knight was just awsome.
I seriously think that the movie wouldn't have done have as well if it weren't for his phenominal acting as The Joker.

I have to say, I'm a little disappointed, but I'm not at all surprised

I voted Heath because i'm too young to care for the others.

Although I think alot of people say Heath because it was his last film.

Heath did play a good Joker, and it was different then anything short of some of the comic books.

I liked Nicholson because he took his cues form Cesar Romero, AND Tim Burton's directing style. Mixing those two elements was like mixing chocolate and peanut butter for me.

At the risk of coming across like a Ledger fanboy, I really do think his performance in The Dark Knight was brilliant. I was incredibly sceptical about the rave reviews he in particular was getting before I saw the film, but here I am eating my all too presumptuous words. His joker was straying quite a lot from the original concept of the character but it was needed to keep the film feeling vaguely realistic, and I really did like the change as well.

Meh. The movie wouldn't have done as well if he hadn't pegged.
