They all played a different kind of Joker so there is no best imo
This. All 4 brought something unique to their time.

Although, if it was Frank Gorshin vs Jim Carey, Frank kicks Carey's ass.

Dr. Harleen Quinzel still beats all the Mr. J's though.
I actually didn't mind Jim Carey as the Riddler

I just wish that he wore the SUIT more

When he shows up at Two Face's place, and he's wearing the green suit, that's the image of the Riddler I like.

Instead, they had him wear the spandex suit through half the movie, and that didn't look good anytime.. we definately didn't need to see carey's bulge throughout the film.

Carey is probably one of the better castings from the old series of batman, just the costume director needed to take a step back.

my opinion though

Keaton may have been the best Batman, but I think Val Kilmer was a much better Bruce Wayne.

Jack Nicholson, what the hell is wrong with you people?? But seriously, maybe if he'd died after filming people would like his more. A performance through rose tinted glasses seems all the sweeter.

"I'm Batman!!!"

"No, Mr. Keaton, you are not."

If Mark Hammil had been on the list I'd have had some thinking to do, but since he wasn't it was a slam dunk for Heath Ledger. Ledger brought the Joker of "The Dark Knight Returns" and "The Killing Joke" (in other words, a Joker for grownups) to the screen. As amusing as Romero and Nicholson were (and as talented, no debate there) their performances were constrained by the scripts they were handed and were more parodies than criminal psychopaths.

I gotta say Heath, he really brings out the modern Joker and there has never been a better portrayal of the character in live action film/television. But if you were going to say best overall joker? It's gotta be Mark Hammil's voice work, just because he brings both scariness and manic hilarity to the role. He's not as Dark as Heath Ledger, but Batman doesn't always NEED to be dark (look up the new series Batman: The Brave and The Bold to see what I mean).

I think that Mr. Carey needed a little padding in the groin area...or it was a very cold day.
