You want to go somewhere that's (from what I hear) rainy and depressing?

Why not Charleston? We have nice, sunny beaches! The music is probably better in Portland, though. Unless you get into bluegrass.
as much as i love bluegrass, and Charleston, i need to get out of the east coast, idk if i mentioned it but i'ma born and raised Virginian... omg and if you've never seen the actual coast line before, it's so breathtaking and enormous, it really reminds you how we're all such a small part in a gigantic and magnificent world.

Eh, I'm about 30 miles outside Portland. It's one of the more tolerable cities I've seen in my travels (also, more strippers per capita than... anywhere)... but then, I was born there too... so I might be a little biased.

You don't have to tell me. I live on the coast and still look out at it in awe (it's especially awesome when you're out surfing early in the morning and the dolphin are jumping around you).

Go west, young man. I think there's a few Portlanders here. Maybe you can get to know some before the move?

I feel inspired to go watch Into the Wild again for some reason...

i'm sick of my life and situation so finally fed up with it i've decided to change a lot of things. i'm gonna move, get a new job and try to make a life not based so much on dependancy, in portland,Or.

i just wanna know that i'm not as alone as i appear to be....
Move to Seattle. Not as many hippies up here, and it's still a nice. You are also only about four and a half hours away. So those friends you still really want to see are not to far away.

Welcome to Portland! We're nice people. :D (You're about 2 years behind me, actually; I moved out here and got a job too, after college.) I would caution that unemployment in Portland is pretty high, so you might want to nail down a job before you actually move out here. Or at least have some kind of income.

But hey, even if you miserably fail the doorways and alleys here full of cheerful homeless hipsters and are quite cozy. ;p

Are you considering starting an evil kingdom and conquering the land? I'm always up to assist anyone who needs it!
Excellent. Phase one is conquering this land. Then the world.
Then mankind will spread to the stars! And then, I will become omnipotent, then I will become God. Then I will rewrite a few things about reality, because I have quite a few objections to the way it works.

I'm about to move out of my parents house and into an apartment with my best friend.

Ah adulthood awaits. Life's journey is about to get interesting.

I hope everything goes well for you man. Good luck.
