I don't hate cats at all. I absolutely love cats. They're so awesome.

Because cats are evil.
Pretty much, and why not just get a dog or another animal that might acknowledge your existence for more time then it takes to feed them?
Mine acknowledges my presence all the time, certainly he'll demand things (food among them) but all pets will do that, you can't train them to believe that food isn't of utmost importance before anything and that if they aren't fed at the time they become accustomed to that you aren't out of food.

I don't understand, your tone says you're arguing against me but the words sound like you agree. Any pet, ANY PET is your responsibility and not your neighbours'. If a dog is running loose in public it should be impounded and rehomed or the owner should be fined. I didn't say that cats were the only asshole pets, I said they were the most popular where I was. Come on guys, reading comprehension and a little thought here. The question was basically 'why do you have a problem with cats' and that is my answer. If the question was about dogs then your answer would be equally valid.

As it happens I've owned both animals, a house cat and a dog. There's some very specialised and highly directed stupidity in this thread that says anyone who likes one animal hates the other de facto. This isn't the case, I don't hate cats and in fact tend to like them. I hate irresponsible owners who don't understand their animal.

Fuck, it really isn't actually the cat's fault and I know that, it's the fault of owners who don't care for their animal.
As long as we're asking for responsibility from pet owners all around it's all good. I don't have nearly as much of a problem with with the cats that pass through as I do with the neighbor's dogs though. There's some jackass that lives up the road from me who lives traps all the rats and mice that come around his house and releases them at the corner here so the cats keep the population under control.

I like cats fine, but my Mom starts to physically break down in the presence of them. Stupid allergies.

Every cat I've met has been a horrible little shit. I still remember when one tried tearing up my foot when I walked by it. Plus, they only stick around while there's food to feed them. And they love bringing in bleeding animal carcasses and shove it in your face.

And to quote a comedian I saw:

"Cats are the only animal we allow to keep a box of shit in our house. Some time ago, we collectively got together, and agreed it was okay for a cat to keep a box of shit in our house. And you wouldn't do that for anyone else, God forbid Grandma stays with you while she's sick.."

Dogs shower affection on their owners non-stop, people love that. Cat's don't, the relationship between a human and a cat(especially outdoor cats) is very live and let live, which I prefer. Cat's are also low maintenance.

-Feed me and then rub my tummy, *****.

-Fine, but you better do something adorable later today.

-Maybe, now feed me.

If you notice Hollywood is very anti-cat. Bad guys always own a cat. Makes me so angry.

I'm not really into pets in general, honestly. All the caring for them and cleaning them (and everything the freaking touch) just doesn't seem worth it for the single-minded, fickle affection that I barely get to even experience because I'm so busy doing the former. In fact, when you do get that affection, it can even go wrong, and you just end up damp or sore or covered in hair! ...or a combination of the three. This applies to all pets, IMO, that the payoff you get is proportional to the effort you have to put into their care, but that the effort always outweighs the payoff.

Nonetheless, my girlfriend has an insane hatred for cats that I find unreasonable. I actually like cats, and other animals -- it's just taking care of them that irks me.
Thats the great thing about cats. They are extremely contempt. As long as you keep them fed and a place to sleep, they will be happy. As far as being covered in hair, there are plenty of short hair breeds that lose no hair at all. They are also the cleanest animals, often mine will clean themselves just after my grubby hands have given them a pat lol. They can also be trained to shit in one spot from an extremely young age.

I don't know about effort outweighing the payoff either..Ask any cat lover if they don't think the effort is worth the reward? A dog on the other hand IS alot of effort and a person will get alot more from a dog from the more time that they spend with it. But thats cool if pets aren't your thing but if the taking care part of it is what turns you off, a cat is probably for you. Good if you ever want to ditch your girl, since she has an "insane" hatred of cats :)
Lol, well, it's always nice to have an "out" if she starts knitting sweaters for our kids or running a meth lab or something.

And goodness, people sure seem to have a lot to say about cats' bad PR.
