Poll: Why all the hate on fanboy-ism

In most cases being a fan boy is fine. I honestly enjoy the Xbox 360 more than the PS3, but it is the people who take it to far. The people who whenever they hear someone else likes a different console than him/herself, they explode in that persons face. Seriously, why would you do that?

You are arguing over something pointless and something that you cannot control. It is like arguing whether an apple is better than a pear. They both taste good, and both have their great points and their downfall. I used to be one of them, until I realized just how stupid I was, and have taken a neutral view on everything (well, almost.)

Seriously, who wouldn't want to be a fanboy? It's a stable job with good income, the insurance is fantastic if you play your words right, we get tons of 401'ks, the dental plans cover everything, AND you get a little bobbly-head for your desk at work!

Plus, the parties are great. You get access to the secret bathrooms and you control who get's the party favors (I'm still not going to let you have one Stompy!)

Only problem is, this place is too one-sided. We've already got a whole guild of Ps3 guys, and the PC people are adamant but they don't come here frequent enough, and there's nobody on the Wii or 360 side!

Well, hows about that, today I learned I'm just a fan of Sony stuff. Besides, I grew out of all that 'My Console is Better Than Yours' about 20 years ago, back when Nintendo and Sega were duking it out. Never thought Sega would be in the position it is now, it still weirds me out to see copies of 'Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games' on the shelves...

My point? Extreme Fanboyism is pointless.

I find Fanboys to be rather annoying sometimes. Mostly when i'm talking about a game and some fanboy jumps in and tells me how much me and my games suck... because their console is the almighty god console and if i play anything else i'm a retard.A fanboy that doesn't talk down on everyone else is the only good fanboy. Unfortunatly they are a rare breed on the internet.

Except that's what a fanboy is. If you don't fall into that category your just a regular fan. Fanboys tend to be illogical to the point of stupidity and like to start arguments over nothing. Just start a thread saying "Halo Sucks" if you really want to see the sheep get rabid.

You're thinking of the typical, forum dwelling, console fanboy; They are often elitist and thick-headed pricks, but that isn't what makes them a fanboy. Having an irrational loyalty or emotional attachment to some form of media, bordering on obsession is what makes somebody a fanboy. The hostile/defensive behaviour is related to this, but isn't necessarily part of being a fanboy.

I try to be objective when I?m shopping for a new game console but I usually end up with a PS or Nintendo product. I have a PC for those must have Microsoft games (like Mass Effect) and there are very cool features (custom soundtrack and consumer devkits: not sure what they call it) on the 360 I wish my ps3 had. The main reason I don?t have a 360 is because the rrod scared me away. If anything that expensive has that great a chance of breaking down, I can?t buy it, even just on principle.

I like games in general but one thing I really don?t like is someone trying to rip me off. The fact that they knew the 360 would have a high failure rate but they wanted to be able to say ?FIRST!? when releasing this gens consoles is annoying. But for a while I didn?t want a ps3 because I knew it wasn?t going to be the replacement for the home PC that d-bag Phil Harrison said it would be. Now Harrison is off ruining another company so I like sony again.
