I see a fanboy as an ignorant supporter of only one company/console/game who sees or admits no faults in his or her company/console/game and sees only the faults in the competition. OP is a loyal supporter, not a fanboy.

A fanboy who supports a game/console who also isn't afraid to admit its flaws is a rare but good fanboy (witch probably deoesn't make them a fanboy). I'm a 360 + Halo fanboy. I will let people have their say, and i will reply as civilised as i can to them, so long as they do in return.(witch probably doesn't make me a fanboy)

I once made the observation that fanboy's could be refered to as the 'fundamentalists of the gaming world' in another thread on here.

Being a fanboy is a negetive thing since it typically means that you are incapable of seeing other perspectives and have no time for the thoughts and opinions of others.

If someone is open to other ideas and opinions then I wouldn't consider them a fanboy.

I don't think there's anything wrong with being a fanboy, but there is something wrong with asserting fanboyness onto others.

I think it's hard to define somebody as a Fanboy since it doesn't actually have a set definition; It seems like everyone just makes up their own slight variations.

To me, a fanboy is somebody who takes fandom to an extreme level. For example, lashing out at people who criticize their chosen interest, or collecting memorabilia, or getting pikachu tattooed on their butt. This may not fit everyone elses definition which instantly ties "fanboy" to "obnoxious git," but it's the one I use.

I'm glad that we could have a civilised rant together.

Being a fanboy is a double edged sword, on one hand you know also and on the other you have no life. I have a lot of fanboys friends their not bad people, but they are really weird.

A fanboy is a word that carries many negative conotations, but what is wrong with being a fanboy?

I'm a SCE (SONY Computer Entertainment) fanboy, and proud. I am a fanboy because I feel that thier products are the best quality. I can still acknowledge the pros and cons of other consoles but I believe that SCE's products have been nothing short of revolutionary, with amazing games, better disk format than it's competitors (I know PS2 and the original Xbox both used DVD but the Xbox came out after the PS2) and great hardware specs.

Being a fanboy doesn't meen i'm oblivious to other consoles good points.
Sorry, but you're not a fanboy. You're just a fan. Nothing wrong with being just a fan.

"Being a fanboy doesn't meen i'm oblivious to other consoles good points." is kinda like a racist saying being a racist doesn't mean he thinks other races are inferior.

I'm gonna say that your last sentence is what saves you from being a true fanboy. You see, the real fanboys are the ones that ARE oblivious to the other console's strengths and only focus on their weaknesses. And in the same respect, their console of choice has no weaknesses and only has strengths in their eyes. That is when the arguments start and that is when you see a true fanboy.
Ex-fucking-actly. I couldn't have said it any better, so I won't even try. I will say that if all the fundamentalist fanboys were to fall off a cliff, I would laugh myself to sleep.

I myself am a Halo fanboy. There's nothing wrong with that. I know that other games are possibly better(but I haven't tried them yet, so can't judge), and that other people enjoy different games and aspects of games.

It is bad, however, to be a fanboi, wherein you're an ignorant prick who is as stubborn as an ass and refuses to acknowledge others' viewpoints and different interests.

I know you want us to comment, but there's really not much more to say than the fact that what fanboy implies is annoying endless barking from the top of their lungs in an attempt to drown the voices of reason scattered sparsely among the crowd, which don't matter anyway because by that point the only ones that are still listening are the ones that feel the same as the one on their feeling-important platform anyway.

If you allow for difference in opinion, though, a fanboy could just be someone who buys pretty much everything that the company releases and thinks that they are fantastic,(I consider myself a Nintendo fanboy as long as you can ignore Wii Music) nothing wrong with that. Just so long as you aren't obnoxious about it.

A fanboy IS a thick-headed, elitist prick.

A fan is someone who enjoys X but isn't blind to the faults or other opinions.

I've never thought fanboys are bad at heart, just a bit too uncomprimising to the point were they start needless battles and insult good people. But I don't think they truly intend to insult people, but I could be wrong.

It's exactly like religious fanaticism, it just hasn't gone as far as, say, the crusades.

Mind you, I think there's a little fanboy inside all our heads: have you never liked something a little too much, and defended it just ever so slightly too much when faced with valid arguments? Most of us know when to back down, or admit fault, but I can think of a few examples where I've behaved irrationally when defending something.

Fanboyism is destroying the basis of a successful market.

The reason PC games still get released in an unfinished, bugged, and shoddy condition is because fanboys will still go out and buy them.

The reason Xbox360s hardware issues have not yet been properly addressed is because fanboys will still defend the console to the death and continue to support the Xbox after the next version. No message has been sent to Microsoft that failure to repair the issue will mean their next console fails on arrival.

The reason PS3 has hardly any decent games yet but still costs more than a diamond mine to buy is because there are so many Sony fanboys buying the crap that is there instead of just getting something else that Sony don't really need to get their fingers out to save the platform.

The reason the Wii..... well it is a little different. It might have fanboys, but there really isn't a lot that is wrong with it at the moment. It does its job (shallow toy with gimmicks as standard) very well.
