Why is it that pretty much every game now has a DCL to do with zombies for example; Red Dead Redemption. I have been forced to watch Zombie film after Zombie film because my boyfriend love them so and I'm pretty much fed up of Zombies. Come on game developers, why can't you come up with something different? (and not Ghouls. Ghouls are just radiated zombies.) What's your view on this zombie invasion?
Don't worry. When my teen zombie romance novel is published gamers everywhere will die a little inside and this whole zombie fad will come to a screeching halt.

Gotta have that! Sign me up, I'll even pre-order... if you include zombie-goggles... meh... on second thought... even if you don't, sign me up.

I think it's because zombies are the ultimate way of stuffing hordes of something on-screen and then have you kill it fairly easily. It's entertaining, that's why it sells. And with modern-day technology there can be more and more zombies ever. I wait for the day when there's Supreme Commander 4 which has a zombie mode where you try to nuke as many zombies as quickly as you can.

I mean, think about it. [b/]An entire planet full of zombies and you get to nuke their asses![/b] How doesn't that sound entertaining?

Itt's the mass part of massacre that is so easily done with zombies.
IMO they suck. A zombie apocalypse wouldn't be dangerous, unless the disease was spreading in a super-efficient way (long incubation time, through air and everything else, no fucking way of curing it). And then it wouldn't be the zombies that was dangerous, it would be the disease.
Now, if 'zombies' were like cannibalistic animals with all the cunning and self-preservance of an animal, who also happened to be just as agile as a normal person... yep, that would actually be dangerous. Just not a zombie apocalypse.

But hey, I BUILT A LIGHTSABER FROM A FLASHLIGHT AND A BUNCH OF GEMS, FUCK YEAAAAHH!!!
So yeah, zombies are fun to murder.

It's a fad.
Fads sell.

That's all there is to it.
I second that.

It's zombies today, but who knows what the next big thing is?
Maybe it's homosexual Jewish Nazi's, maybe it's just regular, normal people (Heavy Rain being left out of the discussion), maybe it's just inanimate objects, like fridges or chairs.
Fads sell big time, and what can produce a lot of money for the gaming industry, will be used, reused and reused again until it's abused.

Because vampires and werevoles got ruined by the "we shall not speak its name" saga. So, zombies are back! Don't worry, eventually zombies will be replaced by robots.

It's part of the cycle:

Vampires, Werewolves, Zombies, Robots, Aliens, Ninjas, Pirates and back to Vampires again.

Red Dead Redemption proved to me that the zombie craze is going too far.

But I can easily see their appeal; you can basically just slaughter anyone you really hate without the nasty consequences, as they're no longer really those people. It's guilt-free revenge.

As for zombie movies, I'm kind of done with them as well. I was extremely happy with Zombieland though, as that wasn't really a zombie movie, in that it wasn't about the zombies. Hell, for 40 minutes there wasn't a zombie to be seen.

Zombies games are fun, Dead Rising 2 is possibly the most entertaining game I have played this year. Sometimes it is nice to take out some aggression on brainless, shambling enemies. Its called variety.
But if that variety is really really spammed, it stops being variety.
Doesn't really seem like we are being oversaturated with zombie games to me. DR2, RDR DLC, and COD Black Ops are the only games this year with zombies that I can think of.
How many war shooters have we had this year? MAG, Bad Company 2, COD Black Ops, Medal of Honor, Reach (if sci fi wars count) off the top of my head
How many hack and slash action games this year? Bayonetta, Enslaved, GOW3, Castlevania are the ones I can think of right now

Only one actual zombie game this year I can remember, with one game releasing zombie DLC right around HALLOWEEN, and then a shooter with a zombie mode carried over from a previous installment. I really don't understand why people are so upset about zombies showing up in a few games. L4D, Dead Rising and Resident Evil (Even though they technically are not zombie games anymore) are the only full on zombie games I can think of.

If anything I hope they start showing up more often, this gen is sorely lacking some really good survival horror games.

Hi, I'd like to order one shooter, hold the zombies please with some plot on top. You're out? *Sigh* I guess it's Activision again tonight.

I do admit they're fun fodder for screwing around and testing out weapons/combos on hordes of foes.

Aye.

A long time ago, we had platforming fever (Gex, Crash Bandicoot, Mario, Spyro, Banjo and Kazooie, etc).
Then it was Space Marines.
Now it's zombies.

Oh, and welcome to The Escapist.

They're the monster of choice for sociopathic hermits, because you can mow through thousands of people without the slightest twinge of remorse. And what are gamers if not sociopathic hermits?

I've loved zombies since before they became cool, I'm still waiting for a really good zombie game. No, left 4 dead is not a zombie game, it's a shooter with stumbling enemies.
