Though the games have become easier, I don't think it's made those games less fun.

Before, some, if not most games were extremely difficult and eventually frustrating. I couldn't complete most of the games that I owned.

Now, I can beat all of my games with time. They are still difficult at times, but at least I can still have fun.

yup its getting easier and it will keep getting easier untill the gamebecomes so simple games will be just a series of qte (stares angrily at heavy rain) then we'll get rid of those annoying qte and then well go back to movies that require a controller

Because of all the retards paying for them, so developers come to think they deserve to finish the game for their money.

Personally, I think a big reason why games are easier today is that they just don't 'cheat' as much anymore, and are (often, not always) better-designed overall. So it's not exactly a bad thing. Besides, games like DMC and GoW still bring the challenge on the high difficulty settings. If you want to be challenged by a game, you can still find those challenges, or make them up (see the No Merchant Run in RE4), but if you want to play a game to be entertained and delighted, you can do that, too--which you could not do so often in the old days.

I personally think that the reason for this is that loosing continuously is no fun.

Because they have evolved from primitive, challenge based time-sinks into interactive narrative experiences.

The more easy a game is, the more people will buy it and the more fans the company wil get.

I tried playing Super Mario 3 on the NEs (I'm 14)and I'll admit i did not get to the end of the first level. I couldn't get the hang of Mario sliding when I let go of the arrow keys.

Games these days are going through a Michael Bay phase, where the game is 99% flash and 1% substance. The same idiots that buy MW2 are the same idiots that paid for Revenge of the Fallen and other such drek to be created.

I blame the XboX for this. Games had stayed relatively enjoyable before Microsoft had to enter the picture and make an entire console dedicated to the types of games that their computers already operated.

In old games, when enemies touched you, you either died or got hurt. that was bullshit. Nowadays games can have more content so they don't need to be so hard.
Imagine playing, say, oblivion, but whenever an enemy touched you, you died, and had to reload back at the start of the quest, losing all of your money and weapons, you think that would be fun?

I think it's retarded that people think games are getting worse, with the introduction of 3d games, multiplayer, downloadable content etc, games are better than ever.
No, 3d is incredibly overrated. 3d allowed for an entire generation of shit games to get good reviews simply because they were in *HOLY SHIT DUDE!* 3d.

Also, multiplayer is just a way for developers to be lazier when making a game. If you don't believe me, look at MW2 or L4D2.

I have absolutely no problem with games being easier nowadays. In fact I think most games should include a "very easy" option so anyone can finish them. That said, there needs to be more time spent balancing the hard modes, instead of just cheapening the normal mode and calling it a day.
How it's done right: F-zero Gx.
How it's done wrong: Call of duty.

The first one makes your enemies considerably more intelligent, less likely to make mistakes, and push you to play your best. The other just spams mindlessly at you and makes you hide for 95% of the game. That's not balancing.

yeah, because 2d games are better...
[sup][sup]/derp[/sup][/sup]

and who cares if multiplayer makes the developer lazy? it adds hundreds of hours to the game if done well.
Because playing the same stupid space-marine/gritty soldier floating gun game for hours at a time screaming over a headset because you're dying is infinitely more fun than any type of video game ever made up to this point.

so yeah "/derp" that

If any of you really think video games are getting easier because we're getting better at them, please, go play the original Contra on the NES, or Battletoads, or hell - the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

I invite you back into the days of skill, when you had a total of 2 (sometimes 3) attacks, and that was it. I've beaten all three of the previously mentioned games back when I was 7-8 - I've pulled out the old NES, blown into the cartridge, and you know what? I have a DAMN hard time getting through those games now. I used to be able to beat Contra with just the 3 starting lives, start to finish, without dying even once. Now I'm doing good to get through the first 2 levels without dying.

I'm having a hell of time with the Dam level on TMNT - yet I remember being able to get through it with no problem previously. I shudder to think of when I get back to the Technodrome!

I contend that no, we are NOT getting better at games. I would contend that we are getting WORSE at games, without a proper challenge!

I can hardly get a team of people from the public queue that's good enough to make it through the level, let alone finish the finale on expert. /quote]

i completely agree with that its hard to find a good team from the normal public games, but i dont just pick a random team i play with good friends i know from real life they all have mics and we know how to get past the level without any complications

Games are easier these days for many reasons, some good, some bad (personal opinion)

Good

-Better controls
-Better camera angles
-Less occurrences of broken gameplay/characters
-Better testing to ensure a better product
-The ability to save your progress for gradual progression instead of a mandatory 1-sitting play through

Bad

-Game holding your hand for you. (such as Alan Wake's protagonist telling you what to do constantly)
-Health Regeneration, although this was implemented primarily because people for the PC would just quick save every minute or so to make sure they would have plenty of health after a firefight.
-Piss poor A.I.

There can still be many challenging games out there (Demon's Souls for example) that are truly difficult for all the right reasons, however, the tech has gotten to the point that games feel easier because they are better constructed. That said, turn off the autosave, turn off the hint system, don't spend any skill points, don't collect anything that will increase your maximum life or damage, and turn the difficulty to the highest setting.
