I didn't. I played it as a rental at my friend's, found the co-op missions and zombie mode entertaining, but hardly worth 60 bucks (and paying 60 dollars for the "privilege" of multiplayer is like paying 60 dollars for a bleach enema).

So I've been told that Black Ops is one of the top selling games in history. But why did you, Escapists, buy Black Ops? Single Player? Multiplayer? Zombies? Achievements? Or maybe just a fanboy (No offense if so)?

I bought it for zombies mostly. Same reason I got the DLC's.
I didn't, so selected "other" as there was no option covering it.
I may buy it when its cheap/on sale, as a generic run and gun console game.

Because it didn't have so much noob tubing, commando'ing and vehicles owning me in the face like in MW2.

Other. I bought an XBOX 360 and Black Ops came with it (along with Alan Wake). I've never even opened the game but I technically do have it.

I was told the single player was awesome, and it was coming from a friend who generally dislikes the series.

When I buy it, because I enjoy the multiplayer, and it's a part of gaming history, whether or not you like the series. Call me a collector

Don't see why I should buy Black Ops, I already have CoD4...

Had the chance to play Modern Warfare 3 last weekend on steam, multiplayer. Extremely disappointed. How can a game like that be so successful? It's just not fair in any way. I could barely tell the difference between it and CoD4, and quite frankly I barely played CoD4 either.

Battlefield 3 is much better on all fronts. CoD is like Counter-Strike if made by Hollywood.
It's popular because everyone keeps buying it. Nobody seems to really understand that new games should have more qualities to them then OMFG GUYZ NEW COD IS OUT GO BUY NAO. Don't worry though, it may take the masses a while to learn, but once they discover that they're getting fed recycled garbage, they'll start refusing it.

2 reasons:

Zombies and because everyone else had it.

I'd buy zombies all on its own

I did like it but I don't feel that it came close to game of the year. The only thing I truly have against it is that treyarch cannot make guns feel like guns if their lives depended on it, 3 games in a row and they all sound like pellet guns.

I didn't.
My wife did. Mostly to play with her friends online so I would say Multiplayer, but they also played the zombie maps.
We didn't get any of the map packs, they're a little overpriced aren't they? I'm thinking we may have picked up one or two if they were $5-10.

Never bought it. I never really got into the whole "Call of Duty" thing beyond the first Modern Warfare, but my brother convinced me to give Black Ops a try.

It was alright.

No offense but i'd hardly call it a series, each game is basically a $60 DLC for the last.

I've bought games that did feel like DLC's for the previous entries. The Force Unleashed II, The Darkness II, among others. I've been satisfied by the campaigns in the CoD franchise for every game except MW2.

Because used copies of MW3 and Battlefield were unavailable at my friendly neighborhood game store, and I was curious to see just how many foul mouthed preteens would still be clogging the servers thirteen months after release.

Short answer: Enough that I reflexively mute anyone who has a mic on.

They did something different with the story even if it wasn't particularly good. Everything I had seen about the multiplayer led me to believe they had fixed all the nonsense like Stopping power juggernaut and toned down killstreaks.

Too bad none of that mattered because the netcode was garbage and I basically was done with the multiplayer the weekend it released. I am just worn out at this point even though I enjoy the series.

I haven't bought it yet, but I plan to at some point. The reason will be entirely for the single player experience as I don't find FPS multiplayer to be a fun experience for any game.

Seconded, in my opinion it did balls it up a bit, but mainly I find the series a fun, water cooler game and the Cold War could do with a bit more of an exploration in video games.

And Zombies. Wurghh!

I bought it because a local music/film/gaming store was closing down and all prices were cut by at least 90%.

I bought it because Treyarch made World at War, which was my favorite CoD game.

I also purchased it for the game. As in, the entire package. Whatever was included in the package was the reason I bought it. Competitive Multiplayer, Zombies, and Campaign.
