Because people have differing tastes and not everyone likes the same things as you?

Personally, I'm primarily a PC gamer, but I've always thought the Halo series was pretty good. It doesn't deserve the ridiculous acclaim and 10/10 ratings that get piled onto it, but it doesn't deserve all the hate it gets from others either. Though I enjoyed some of the games in the series more than others, I'd say overall the series deserves a solid 7/10. They're fun games, with solid gameplay and a decent (if not particularly original) story, presented in a well polished package.

There are definitely better games out there, but there are many more worse ones.

I don't ask people about the games they like because they need to be justified, I ask because I'm interested in what they have to say.
Yeah, I guess I'm gonna have to eat a plate of my own shit here. My post was a reaction to the original post and then you jumped in, I kind of had it in my head that it was one person. I think we're pretty much on the same page here.

Sorry about the misunderstanding. It honestly sounds like we share a lot of ideas about game discussion now that I read it all back. No hard feelings I hope. :)

Agreed with many of the other people on here. The "Why do you like X"? topics are kinda pointless. Myself, I remember being impressed with Halo pretty much from the first time I played it. There were a lot of things that it did really well, and many of these were new experiences for me at the time, certainly for a console FPS.

1: Excellent action feel. I read somewhere when the original game was released that the designers wanted to capture cool moments, like charging down a hallway at a covenant Elite, emptying your assualt rifle into it to deplete its shields before hitting it with your rifle for the kill, then tossing a grenade to disrupt the oncoming enemies while you move behind cover to recharge your own shield.

2: Regenerating health. I know lots of people hate this. But I honestly felt at the time that it was a great alternative to most prior FPS games, where your health would be depleted and you would be forced to backtrack for a few minutes through a cleared-out area to find a medkit so you could proceed into the new enemy-filled area with even a chance of survival. In most cases, the regenerating shield allowed you to get back into the action faster, plain and simple.

3: Vehicle sections. These weren't really that common in FPS games when Halo was released, and definitely not in console FPS games. And the ones that did feature vehicels mostly just plugged you into a tank and drove it down some corridor for you to shoot oncoming enemies until it said stop. Very few of them put you in an open area with branching paths, room to maeuever, and the ability to use either the turret or the wheel. Granted, the AI was never very good at driving in these games, so if you were playing solos, you would generally have to drive anyway.

4: Multiplayer. The original Halo allowed for Split-screen 4 player multiplayer and a 2 player co-op mode. Again, not very common in FPS games of the day. And if you could manage the logisitcs of system-linking several Xboxes, you could play with up to 16 people. That was pretty impressive at the time. My friends and I played a LOT of multiplayer Halo at the time.

There were a lot of other elements that I enjoyed about the series and still do. Granted, Master Chief isn't a very engaging character, and the story is pretty convoluted. But even up to Halo 4, I find that there is still more about these games that I like than that I don't. I still enjoy playing them.

None at all, I wasn't offended or anything.
