it's always confused me, the whole "I'm vegetarian but I still eat fish" thing... (even though vegetarianism has always confused me but that's for a different time)

I guess if you look at the way fish are collected, it seems they're harvested rather than farmed (except the farmed ones, of course) but that's a stupid way to base your morals.

oh and for the record, if I want to eat meat, I will. if you think its "wrong" or "immoral" then go tell it to a bear, see what he thinks.

Fish is definitely meat, especially from a moral vegetarian perspective.

From a culinary perspective however, it can certainly make sense to differentiate between fish, foul and "meat". As they all have different tastes, textures and nutritional content.

Back in my Catholic days during lent we would always eat fish because you weren't supposed to eat meat, I think it said something in the bible or something I don't really know or remember. But I'm a gun touting meat eating person through and through so I'm gonna eat fish anyway and any other furry woodland creature.

The only thing that astonished me more than the complete nonsensical nature of this title was the fact that, upon entering this thread, I found 4 people had already said that they did not think fish was a meat.

DO YOU EVEN KNOW WHAT A FISH IS?

That's what a fish looks like. When you cut open a fish, you find flesh and guts. When you eat this flesh and guts, you are eating meat.

Hence, fish is meat. Not vegetable, not mineral, meat.

MEAT!

Fish generally aren't cute enough. The same reason it's more acceptable to kill a spider or fly than a puppy.

Well, except this little fellow:

According to Catholic law/mythos...God said so.
I'm surprised as to how long it took for someone to give the proper answer.

But yeah, it's that, God said you could it eat on some Friday or something, meaning it wasn't meat (makes no sense to me, but whatever).

They don't have eyebrows.
I love the idea that someone said
frank: "hey bob why are you eating a fish I thought you didn't eat animals"
bob: "well frank it's simple it doesn't have eyebrows"
frank: "oh well that reasonable I guess I should tell people about this"
I'm glad I could brighten your day.

Lots of people who claim to be vegetarians eat fish. My friend is a vegetarian and eats fish....... well, fish and duck, its mostly in the water so that counts right?
If he eats fish he is not a vegetarian.
Not to mention the duck....

They aren't considered meat in a basic food pie chart (dairy, fat, etc.) But they fall under "Meat, Fish and Alternatives". 'Alternatives' being things like eggs, which will apply to Vegans. As a note eggs appear in other categories too. So they are technically meat, and a pet peeve of my is those that don't consider them meat but call themselves a Vegetarian. Fucking Pescatarian in denial more like. *glares at dad's girlfriend*

OK why would God think that fish isn't meat (or in my few why did the people that wrote the bible think fish isn't meat)

That poor duck never saw it coming he thought "look free bread crumbs" but little did he know it was a trap.

I can't remember the exact verse (I'm not religious by the way, just interested in this stuff, I'll go find it.

Well actually, the bible itself doesn't say anything about it apparently, it's because all commoners could afford for the celebration of good Friday was fish, so it became accepted that it wasn't a meat.

So fish isn't meat because it was cheap and people just changed there morals to suit them.
