I have very mixed feelings about Halo 4. On one hand it's an obvious that Microsoft is just trying to milk the series for all that it's worth. On the other hand, its a return to the original storyline. Bungie's single player campaigns have been lacking ever since they have started doing prequels so maybe the new company can make it something other than a long series of fire-fight matches.

btw Now that we're going back to the original storyline, I best see some images of the Arbiter or I'm about to release some nerd/fan-boy rage up in this forum

Speaking as a Halo fan, I wish Microsoft had just let the series go when Bungie left. I don't want to see the Halo franchise go the way of Star Wars
It already has with the singleplayer in my opinion. It seems to have just become a token series of fire-fight matches and moving to a new location.

edit:
I guess with the exception of the 5 minutes of space combat in Reach

This was the game that I couldn't get into redesign. What's with Cortana's hair? Never in the books or established in the game does it say an A.I. can change its looks after it chooses its intial look. Also wtf happened to Master Chief's armor. He can't get a new set of armor when he's in an abandoned ship in the middle of space. There is no one there to change it, it stills need to be put physically on him. It has been stated A.I.'s cannot change the armor of a spartan. What Master Chief went out of cryo, found a close near by planet and bought himself some new armor? Also there is something wrong with Chief's porportion in this game.

I'm not looking forward to Halo 4.

Because Halo's 2, 3 and Reach all sucked big fat donkey balls. Seriously though, the original Halo was practically a masterpiece. I just don't understand why all these fanboys can't face up to the fact that ever since the first Halo game the franchise has been steadily rolling down hill, picking up debris and rabid frat boys as it grows financially larger and larger. Let Halo die, please. And for all you fanboys out there, Half-Life was a much better fps than Halo.
Before reading that last part I was actually respecting your opinion, but you can join the rest of Half Life fanboys this site has become popular for.

OT: I love Halo, but even Reach was enough, seriously if 343 dont add something to the series, that wants me question the conclusion, I won't bother.

I think the question should be: "Should I buy Halo 4 or the Anniversary?"
Anniversary is coming out this year, and Halo 4 will come out in 2012, Surley you can buy both if you wanted :L

In my humble opinion, 343 making a 4th Halo is a bit like Christopher Tolkein (JRR Tolkein's son) writing a new Lord of the Rings novel; the main protagonist is still live 'n kicking, albeit in a new place (Frodo leaving Middle Earth/Master Chief in space), and this new location provides opportunity for a new bad guy. Being the son of the author, Christopher will have all of the original notes and he's even edited some of the original stories, so who better to do it?

A daft idea? 'Course it is. Because just like Lord of the Rings, Halo finished, I'm afraid. And so it should've done, all stories have to.

As for Halo 3 ending on a cliff hanger, it doesn't really, does it? Chief floating through space is just more interesting and emotionally involving than him sitting down with a cup of tea while everyone tells him what a great job he's done. To continue the Lord of the Rings analogy, you could say that Frodo sailing to the West makes The Return of the King a cliffhanger, but we all know it isn't.

It strikes me that Microsoft are in it because they know much more money can be made from the franchise. In fairness, they're a business, so we can't really blame them.

I'm an enormous Halo fan, but I know when to call it a day. For me, Halo is done, and I'd rather leave it as it is than play every sequel Microsoft churn out until they finally admit they're out of ideas.

Well to be fair the next Zelda is a stunt by Nintendo to make more money, the next Elder Scrolls is a stunt by Bethesda to make more money. Doesnt mean that they shouldnt be made though, im looking forward to Halo 4, its a series i quite enjoy.
Also to people quoting Yahtzee's opinion on games needing to stand up on single player, just please shut up, I love Yahtzee, but his opinions arent automatically correct.

To answer the poll question; No, I don't believe Halo 4 is going to suck. I won't be playing it, because I don't care about the franchise. In my opinion it will fall in the range of mediocre - above average.

To answer the thread title; It basically is a money-grabbing move by Microsoft. Every body knows just how well the Halo titles have sold, so the obvious next move for Microsoft is to say, "Hey! Let's make more of 'em!"

Halo 4 isn't a stunt. But the reason it exists is to make more money. People want more Halo, but Bungie doesn't want to make them anymore, so Microsoft put together a studio to give the people what they want, and take their money for it. People hate on it because people hate the franchise, not because it really is a "stunt". Will the game suck? I don't know. Could do, but I can't see it being a total disaster.
