What argument? This entire thread is about opinions, its what we thought of the game, there isn't a cold hard fact to be found here.
The thread has a question and to answer properly you better come up with something related to this. To answer a question properly you need to make your point clear. If you dislike something you'd better come up with a reason (which was asked for) oir you shut your mouth and walk along.

"It is overrated as fuck" is neither an argument not does it add something worth discussing. Damn, even you provide more basis to discussion in your OT text than this guy did.

I had literally the same situation yesterday when some guy thought he can point me out at a party because I discussed a subject he disliked with the protection of his opinion. You know what, having an "opinion" is as good an achievement as to breathe. An opinion without any arguments to back it up is worthless as fuck.
You only have to argue your opinion if you are in the business of justifying why you think that way. The OP asked what our take on episode 1 was, he said it was the best. He doesn't need to argue that with everyone, as it was a mere question.

If the OP wanted us to explain, he or she should have asked that, but the OP didn't, OP simply asked what we thought of it. No argument needed. That's different from your scenario presented as the other guy was clearly using his opinion as a shield. Guy i'm defending wasn't, he was just stating his opinion then getting annoyed when people assume he's trolling, which is a valid response.

The gameplay and environments are all recycled from HL2, and it's shorter than EP2 without the innovation and spectacle. Still, it's narratively and atmospherically the most consistent of the series.

And finding HL2 boring (how? has your sense of fun been ruined by Halo and CoD?) does not make the game overrated, since both main Half-Life titles objectively transformed the shooter genre in ways which are still being directly emulated. And many of Valve's feats (storytelling and characterization, for examle) have yet to be surpassed in any other game of the genre.

I love Ep 1 and 2 pretty equally, and would rate both higher then then the original game.

The only teeny tiny reason Ep2 is a little better is for the pretty countryside.

Well I thought that it was pretty much a rehash of the City 17 section in--

The first time I played through Half-Life 2, Episode 1, and Episode II in sequence, I remembered Episode I as the weakest part. The second time I played them all through, I realized I was remembering it totally wrong. It was long, varied, interesting and fun. I don't know why my recollection of my first run through was so different from my experience the second time I played it.
