Alright. I want this to be calm and mature discussion between fans and non-fans. And yes, bronies, you need to be just as calm and mature as non-bronies.

I'm just wondering, I've been seeing a lot of hate directed towards us and I felt like I should figure out why people hate us. I created this thread to have an intelligent discussion with those who have qualms against bronies and try to let them understand how I feel.

For each poll answer, I've prepared a rebuttal. Please suggest other reasons if you feel I've missed why you hate bronies.

Option 1:
I'm not. I'm not ironic in this at all. I've also yet to meet a brony who is ironic in their liking of the show.
I really do like this show, and to clarify myself to a certain Escapist with an avatar of Kim-Jong Il (you know who you are), whether or not I've tricked myself into liking it makes no difference. I like it now, and that's what matters. I came into the community with no doubt I would like the show and I was right in my assumption. I saw that people liked it and decided that if people liked it, it's probably worth a shot. It was, in my opinion.

Option 2:
No shit.
Of course some of us are creepy, and of course there's porn. Creepiness? That's all over the internet, and you need only look so far as Google to find that. Of course some fans would be creepy in their love, because they have the gift of anonymity and every fanbase has creeps in it.
Seriously. There's not one fanbase that is exempt from creepiness. This is no exception.
Also, ever heard of rule 34 of the internet? I'm not going to explain it if you haven't, you have Google for that. But seriously, there will be porn where there is demand. And there is obviously demand in a community that started on the internet.
It took me a while to get over the rule 34 and shipping, but I learned to deal with it because there's no escaping it in any community.
I can't say I blame you if you chose this option

Option 3:
While you can judge whether or not I'm unmanly, there's no denying that one of my best friends who I've converted is manlier than hell.
He does manual labor everyday, he's as redneck as an avid gamer who lives in city limits can be, I've shot guns and rode ATVs with him on multiple occasions (God bless the Deep South), and he's shot me more times than I care to count with a paintball gun (the bastard).
The subject matter of a something someone likes does NOT determine someone's sexual orientation or whether or not they're manly.

Option 4:
I can sympathize with you if you picked this. Even I, a brony, cringe a little when I see pony related pictures in threads when it's not called for.
I've definitely seen that we toss our stuff everywhere whether or not it's called for. And a lot of you guys get caught in the crossfire or are deliberately aimed at by our own.

But, in our defense, it's exciting to know that there's something that shouldn't be tolerable and is excellent (in our opinions).

Option 5:
Thank you so much for being tolerant to us/liking us/being one of us.

Final Note
Bronies are as diverse as the internet.
Not all are male.
Not all are adults. (I'm an example of this)
Not all are unemployed.
Not all are caucasian.
All of these things I've just listed are true for every fanbase.

Option 6:

You could, you know, choose not to hate people based on their television preferences...

For some reason I thought of Yahtzee saying "Maybe if they'd quit gobbing on about it".

We may have a tendency to over-hype the show, or that the complete enthusiasm for it and praise isn't exactly warranted. Granted it's a good show, even great, but not the 'deliverance from on high' we defend it as. A lot of people, here at least, are probably sick of seeing threads on it too.

EDIT: To the OP, the guy you're referring to in Option 1 was absolutely doing that as a troll thread, not at all meant to be taken literally.

So, we can safely say it's going to be 95% people saying Option Five, the remaining five percent being people who are either trolling or are dumb enough to hate someone based on their taste in television. But I guess those who do probably do because of the fact that there are so many of us, and that we discuss it as much as we do.

I take that one.

I'm just getting sick of the Fanart...the scary, scary fanart.

Really? Fuck. I'm bad at detecting trolls.

Yeah, but if that was your logic path, rule 34 would make you have everything.

Yep.

If someone ever seems too hateable, or a reply is more dismissive and "I'm right, you're wrong" than anything, you've got a troll.

OT: I told my therapist about it recently and persuaded her into watching an episode.

you know something, i dont hate this weird pony obsession, however i am sick of seeing it come up constantly, not if its in a thread actually to do with it, because i can usually avoid them because they say "bronie" or something in the title, what i am sick of is you cant seem to go into a thread anymore withit it coming it, and usually it holds no relevance to the actual thread.
also i do get annnoyed when i see people saying things like "you have to have watch atleast X amount of episodes or the whole season before you ca say the shows not good/whether you like it or not" its an argument i have seen far to any times and its a stupid argument

Yea, I'd hate to think anyone is actually shallow enough to "hate" people over their taste in TV. But I suppose stranger things have happened. Don't hate them, just consider it a fad that will pass in time.

I just get tired of the ridiculously religious nature of the fans. In addition, the words used on a day to day basis by many are so cringe worthy that they make me want to kill horses.

I am also thoroughly sick of seeing threads about it. I have watched my fair share of episodes and while it's not a [i/]bad[/i] show by any means, it is not even close to being worthy of this amount of attention(or memes).

To me, (and don't take this the wrong way) "Bronies" come of as desperate for a new television show. There are clearly better TV shows out there, even though they have been cancelled long ago.
No offense intended, but that's just how many appear to me. Again, as the OP said, there are exceptions to every rule and the things I have said do not apply to every MLP fan.

Now, I'm just curious to see if Faust can repeat her accomplishments with the second season, or if it will crash and burn.

I don't give a flying marshmallow about these marshmallowing ponyes. The word marshmallow was used as censorship.

Option 4:

They can't shut the hell up about their stupid TV show. Or stop making topics about them.

The forum ate my second option! It's supposed to be "They're creepy and have porn".

Why are you acting like you're part of some kind of oppressed minority? This is not a serious topic or indeed a problem. You like a children's television show. That's fine, I haven't seen it but I know some children's shows are designed to be enjoyed by many other people aswell. Stop acting so hurt when people take the piss; laugh at yourself a little. And drop this 'brony' shit, you're not part of some secret society, you're not affiliated with any kind of group, and you don't need to have any kind of solidarity or whatever between you. It's just a television show.

option 7: other reason for hatred.
Doesn't include me, I've watched a few episodes, didn't think it was great, wasn't bad either, very well done considering it's about ponies in fact. I think the real reason is as humpinhop said, it isn't as amazing as bronies say it is, but since it is about ponies, it needs to be hyperboled to such an extreme to make it seem acceptable. That and how there was a sudden surge of MLP lovers, and MLP avatars, that the overwhelming explosion of MLP praise provoked hostility to a mass of over-praisers. That's just my thoughts though, with no evidence whatsoever.

Why should you hate bronies? What have they ever done to you? Committed crimes against you? Hacked your PSN account and stole your details? Killed your dog?
Nope none of the above.

Hating a group of people based on personal preference rather than having an actual grudge against them strikes me as pretty mental!
