Basically, almost all of the above, I'm not too keen on competitive gaming and "pwning noobs" but I have to admit I have some of that in my absolute love for killing 13 year-olds on FPSes. Otherwise, I'm just looking to unwind and have some fun.

I play to be entertained, to unwind and to just be engrossed into a good story. (only reasons why I played CoD4 & Half Life 2 was because the stories caught my eye. That and because the first 15 min. or so for each were just so damn great! Damn, both were great through the whole thing.)

That's not what Bobby Kotick thinks. The rest of us, however, are pro-gaming fun (and some storytelling).

As a longtime gamer, I will tell you this. Intimacy is so much better. Then when you're done with that, unpause your game.

How anybody thinks WoW is better than companionship is beyond me.

I do it to unwind. Nothing makes the stress of a day go away quite like Carl Johnson walking into Burger Shot or Cluckin' Bell and wasting a few innocents.

To have fun of course! That's where so many games nowadays miss the mark, because they have nothing but story and very little fun, FRESH gameplay. Mind you I love a game with equal parts fun, balanced with equal parts good story (Half-life 2, GTA san andreas)

Because I think that every television show and movie would be greatly improved by having a dose of me in it. oO

No, seriously, there's a sense of accomplishment and immersion that comes with video games that can't be replicated anywhere else, except perhaps in a sex dream. Plus, you get to project yourself into them. That whole sense of, 'I'm playing this game the way I want to,' whether it's picking your favourite character in a fighter game, choosing between action/stealth/magic in an action/adventure RPG, or running around making things explode, you get to play with a system in a way that reflects your personality. And it ends when you turn it off; when you're ready to stop playing, not at some arbitrary time that doesn't suit you.

In a way, watching movies and TV shows is like sitting around at a station waiting for the story train to pick you up and take you to work, whereas playing video games feels like saying, "Fuck it," and tearing off on a motorcycle, feeling the wind through your hair as you get that sense of freedom. (Mind you, some games ruin this, and you know who you are!) But, anyway, that's always the argument I make whenever people tell me they don't get the appeal of video games.

...Plus, you know, you get to poke things in the world until they explode or shoot you in the face. There's that too.

Aren't the first two very similar?

I'd say a mixture of fun, storytelling, and a vague thing like the fantasy world option I can't really describe.

A mix between fun and escapism. I love residing in fantasy worlds, but I equally love just having some fun with my TF2 clan members.
