A question for you all, what is your reason for posting on this forum? Think about it, why are you here today, commenting on a meaningless thread on the internet that will do little to affect anyone or anything?

Because of my rosy, hopeful demeanor, utter trust and respect for gaming culture, and extreme, dare I say legendary, patience for nonsense, bullshit, hornswaggling, and moral high-ground drawn from nitpicking and false equivalency.

Where else is a lonely geek gonna go? I need to spew all my opinions on the latest what-have-you's somewhere.
Habit is a big part of it, but I like seeing lots of different opinions too.

Very much this. I have been given zero reasons or incentives to go and find another forum to post in so this is the only place I have to regularly communicate with people on the internet. When the Escapist goes down I might eventually join another forum or something, but I also might not and just drift around on the internet.tippy2k2 said:

It's the first, and literally only, forum I'm a member of. Everywhere else I go, I just read. I'm never joined a site, save for this one. And the reason I did was because of a thread asking whether dropping the nuclear bombs on Japan was the right decision. At the time--even though I think the thread was up to page 11 by then--I had to get in my two cents.
Now...habit. I check every day, but I must admit, I miss the old days. Just checking the forums half an hour later, there would usually be several new topics to talk about. Now, it takes a week at least for enough new things to creep in to push out the old threads. Also, most to the time I get quoted now is someone telling me how wrong I am, instead of something fun like it used to be.
I don't think I'll leave unless the site shuts down. Been here too long to just bail like that, but it's not as fun as it used to be it seems. Not as friendly.

Its a habit and honestly I don't have the stamina to play games in this heat for more than an hour so talking about video games is the next best thing.

Well, I have a few answers to that question.
Why this forum? It feels the most focused on each individual answer than other forums I've visited, given the larger spaces and text for each entry. Because of the size of the profile pics, the names, and badges, it feel like each post is more from a person rather than just an excerpt from a face in the crowd. It's also populated by a large amount of cynics, people that I've more or less trusted for honest, if pessimistic, answers to questions that I may have, whether I know the questions or not.
Why am I here right now? Because I'm waiting for a queue to pop in FFXIV and I have nothing better to do other than watch Youtube and I usually run out of videos I want to watch after about an hour.
