A manifesto is basically the summary of a set of beliefs and ideals. The most political parties write a new one before an election. But you want to know the main reason why no one writes them anymore on a independant scale? It the equivelant of the man on his soap box preaching and therefore nobody gives a damn.

I did not know what a manifesto is, but wiki told me I'm planning to add one in my presentation for Dutch.

Explaining an idea that could improve the general welfare of mid- and lower-classes without taking away welfare from the upper-classes is a manifesto, right?

I suppose no one bothers any more to search solutions that no one will execute anyway.

I don't actually understand what you mean by manifesto, as the only manifestos I've ever heard of are things people write as their policies when they stand for elction for some role or another. Speaking of which, I may run for Treasurer of the film-making society I'm in at Uni so I may have to write one for that.

But yeah, I do Maths so I don't have much writing to do anyway, just problem solving...

How do you guys not know what a manifesto is? Anyone do any Modern History recently? Did a bit of research of the fall of the Romanovs? 'cause there was a Manifesto very deeply involved in that.

I was ninja'd for the definition by vgmdrprdrpr (or however you spell it), so you can take a look at his post above.

And as for writing one, I don't see any point for doing it. Really, I don't think there's going to be a revolution any time soon; the Democracy did an excellent job of preventing them.

I made a 'tool closet manifesto' when I was the repairperson at a hardware store cuz I got tired of people messing up my workshop. The first rule was people must as me or the other two repair guys for the key.

I had to pick 'Urgh, what is a manifesto? Is it, like, a festival for hot men?' that made me laugh ever so much.

I am severely disappointed in my brother's generation of University ( or Uni for short) students of late. When I visited the "Make a Manifesto" stand at the Art Gallery of Queensland, my brother had nowhere near as much enthusiasm for writing a manifesto as I did. He resisted participating in the manifesto making activity at all, and I pointed out that as a University student he should have written five manifestos by the time he had reached his stage of his University course.

Why is the modern young man (and sometimes women are equally guilty of this) so detached from Manifesto Making these days? Just because one of the main famous Manifestos, the Communist one, turned out to be abused as an ideology, doesn't mean all of them will turn out bad. Artistic/Art related manifestos were written all the time in the 20th Century and nobody got hurt (aside from those damnable Futurists, how dare they try and tear down the museums! The NERVE!). Manifestos don't have to be about massive world changing ideologies 100% of the time, they can also be about changing smaller things.

When was the last time you wrote a manifesto? I'm writing one right now.
I wrote a manifesto when I was 18 and more than a little naive.

To answer your question, the reason most Uni student lack enthusiasm for manifesto writing is political apathy.
I found Uni to be a profoundly disappointing experience when it came to meeting like minded individuals. The fact is that most students (male and female) care more about drinking, clothes, TV and celebrities than about politics or art. This might have something to do with the higher number of people that attend Uni these days, or it might just be a symptom of the vacuous culture of commercialised individualism that we live in.

Its sad, but 90% of people just don't care about any of the things that really matter.

... You guys disgust me.

A manifesto is a list of conditions that must be achieved in order to satisfy the person or organization who wrote the manifesto.

For example:

-------------------

Dearest mummy, I demand the following from you, if you expect further assistance on my part in household chores:

+ At least a 25% increase in allowance.
+ A decrease in working time required by at least 25%.
+ A brand new GameBox 1000.
+ The ability to stay out past 9pm.
+ A pushing back of my bedtime by at least one hour.
+ Socialization of all medical insurance companies. An increase of at least two hours of the time I am allowed to watch TV.

--------------------

How can you sufficiently overthrow a government without a manifesto so people can choose whether or not they agree with you?

How will the communist revolution ever be successful with a generation that doesn't even know what a manifesto is? Agh!

Also: <a href=http://tinyurl.com/cgb295>It's not that hard.

(For those with a broken sarcasmometer, this is sarcastic disgust.)

(Mostly.)
