Poll: Why hasn't LucasArts released a good Star Wars game this generation?

I'd like to see a 3rd battlefront, just cause its probably the best consistent and popular title, and I need a new shooter.

To be honest, i think the "glory Days" of Star Wars games are over. After TFU..and considering that i have little hope for SWTOR, mainly due to LucasArts, not Bioware, yeah i doubt we will see another actually good installment in older Series.

Of course if i could pick one, i'd say TIE Fighter, or potentially another Jedi Outcast/Jedi Academy. Either way i'd be happy i think, hell i'd be happy if they just took those games, remade them with current Day Graphics, a few changes here and there, a little tweak and i'd get it. Well TIE Fighter anyways ;P

Personally, I just want an ending to KOTOR II.
Do you have the restored content mod installed? It fixes a lot of problems and puts back in a lot of stuff that was cut from the final release.

I liked Empire at War, another RTS would be a good move.

A new X-Wing/Tie Fighter game would be awesome. Hell, I would be happy with just a re-release of the series with modernized graphics, an orchestrated version of the iMuse soundtracks, and full optimization for modern PCs. I spent countless hours of my childhood playing those games, and their gameplay mechanics still hold up today. I've always wanted to be Wedge Antilles more than Luke Skywalker anyway.

As for why Star Wars games are in a rut, I think it's for a few major reasons:

1. LucasArts treats the games like Lucas treats the franchise as a whole now: as nothing more than a means to an end for making money. There just isn't that same degree of care and love anymore, replacing it instead with "safe," marketable concepts that are insubstantial and shallow.

2. Focus on spectacle at the expense of gameplay and story. The Force Unleashed games are a prime example of this. Sure it can be fun for a handful of minutes to flail wildly about wrecking everything with the Force, but once the initial impact wears off you begin to realize just how loose and unwieldy the controls are. Moreover, the story ranges from predictable do downright ridiculous at times (and I won't even talk about how it makes a mockery of previously established canon).

3. Too many prequel games. Let's face it, the prequel trilogy isn't exactly loved by many people (to say nothing of the Clone Wars movie and TV show). Yet LucasArts insists on making games either set in or somehow connected to such series. With a few notable exceptions (Republic Commando, Starfighter, Battlefront), most of the "classic" games are set in the "classic" Star Wars trilogy. If you're going to make a Star Wars game, it might as well be inspired by the ones that are almost universally praised (either that, or from the KOTOR era).

KOTOR 3 is all I want. I won't be getting TOR because I don't like MMOs. I want a conclusion to the Revan-Exile story line in a single player turn based RPG.

Was Republic Commando really any good? I found it a pretty average shooter. I hated everything about the prequels so maybe that skewed my opinion of it, but VtM:Bloodlines, Splinter Cell:Chaos Theory, Half Life 2 and Brothers in Arms: The Road to Hill 30 came out about the same time so it had no lasting impact on me. Also I am a big fan of Ghost Recon and Rainbow Six (The proper ones) so the squad controls just felt frustratingly shallow.

I picked 'other' because there is no 'all' option.

But in all honesty, screw a sequel. I want them to re-release X-wing on the consoles and PC. Change NOTHING but the graphics. The story was fun, the combat felt right, the battles were epic--especially that last one where you were heading to Hoth. Giant capital ships everywhere with countless fighters swarming the place. It truly felt like The Battle of Endor. The only game that has come close to this level is Rogue Squadron II.
Oh. And make it co op.

I'd like a knights of the old republic - X-wing hybrid. I am sort of hoping the star wars mmorpg turns its ship fighting component into something neat. Anything is possible right?

Battlefront 3,Its just the best game, its a shame that pandemic went busted otherwise we will probably be fighting in outer space with a jedi, then getting into planet surface and start fighting, its was awesome.

Also, don't play Battlefront renegade squad for the PSP,its just dreadful,so much hope wasted, but a concept that probably would be better for 360 or PS3.

I'm surprised that Jedi Knight didn't get more votes. While I'd enjoy KOTOR III most, and sink innumerable hours into Battlefront III, there simply wouldn't be anything to compare to Jedi Knight's combat.

You missed it, but Bounty Hunter.
If I'd been able to add another option, Bounty Hunter would've been there. While it was one of my top ten, I figured the listed options would each get more votes than it.

Thanks to The Old Republic I doubt Kotor 3 will ever happen. I still hope for a third Battlefront. The PSP titles held me over a while but I need sequel.

Why are we complaining we have such a bright Star Wars game future infront of us! :D

We have Knights of the Old Republic MMO coming which... is looking worse every time I see it...

OR... ummm...

._.

I am just going to go into that corner and cry now]

OT: The amount of good Star Wars games is much smaller percent then what people really remember. For every Knights of the Old Republic and Battlefront, their was a Force Unleashed, a stupid chess game, a direct movie lisence, a direct cartoon liscnce, and all sorts of garbage. George Lucas I don't think he really understands filming as much as he thinks he does (or a very least nobody working for him has the balls to say "NO, a bunny eared gay salamander things is NOT A GOOD IDEA") and understands video games even less, leading in a direction that only makes him more money.

Shadows of the Empire(Dash Rendar!). My favorite Star Wars game of all time.

Haven't played a Rogue Squadron game since the N64 and that was awesome.
