And the game is not responsible for those retarded mongrels who prejudge games. That's their own retard fault. The story, well can't argue there.
I'm not saying it's bad because it's popular, I was saying that it's a bit too popular, and it's diluting other good games. If you want me to talk about why it's a bad game that's a completely other topic.
Games can't "dilute" other games. It all comes down to what the person wants to play. So if they don't like CoD then other options are easy to find.

I love that CODMW2 is still so popular. Gives the kids a place to hang out while I continue to enjoy BFBC2 and Red Dead. Keep them distracted as long as possible I say!

Are you mentally fucking retarded or something. You say its poisoning the video game because its popular? People who are prejudice towards games would simply use your precious bad company 2 if mw2 hadnt come out. You cant blame all the world problems on something just because you dont like it.

-snip-
This isn't quite what I meant, maybe I could have worded it better. I'm not completely blaming the game, I was trying to say that it's gone a bit over board. Maybe you're right, they probably would have used Bad Company 2. I'm not blaming all the world's problems on it, I'm just saying it could be reigned back a bit. I'm really not blaming any problems on it, just saying it's annoying. You and your bad words are taking this too seriously.

How can a game be too popular. So lots of people enjoy it despite its flaws, however big or small they may be. So what?
It's diluting other games, how so.
Maybe I'm making too big an assumption for the rest of the world, but where I live (New Hampshire, USA) the pain has mad a pretty big impact, and has become a painful stereotype. I once had a conversation with a kid in my school, a while I said said something about how I like videogames, and this kid asked me how many time's I've prestiged. This is what I'm talking about, how it's just assumed that if you play games you love Call of Duty.

As for diluting other games, I'm saying that other great games that fall in a similar category, Bad Company 2 for example, are getting passed up or ignored, because people are content with Call of Duty. Now it sounds like I'm saying that's the end of the world, but that's not what I mean, I'm just saying that when people are talking about COD, and I reply with a "Bad Company 2 is better" only to be insulted for my choice, it's not exactly the best of condition the industry could be in.

Once again though, maybe it's just where I live, and I assumed it's a more wide spread phenomenon.
It may not be just where you live, but maybe it's just people you know. It not as bad as you think it is. Where I live, playing MW2 means you have some sort of mental defect. And other games are definately not being passed over for Call of Duty. Bad Company 2 is already widespread acknowledged as being better than CoD. To be insulted for standing up for BC2 just means that they know you're right or that they're annoyed that you can be so intolerent towards their game as to say one 'realistic war shooter' is better than another.

Exactly, before it was GTA, before that it was Mortal Kombat, and before that I don't know what order games came out in.

People just *****.

Did you know they used to complain about theater? Yeah, that theater. New mediums are always considered evil by most people of the previous generation, at least for a while.

The main reason I'm not to keen on CoD is because I'm a huge Medal of Honor fan. Well any Medal of Honor before Rising Sun.

I really liked the earlier CoD's like 3 and Finest Hour.
Does no one like Pacific Assault?

OT: I very much dislike the idea that "video game" is synonymous with "CoD". It's why I'll never find love, because everyone generalises my shit up.

But, New Hampshire's supposed to be smarticals! Have I been deceived by The West Wing?

I guess we're from different demographics. This doesn't describe either the behavior or the perception of video gamers that I'm aware of in the slightest.

If there's anything Modern Warfare is at fault for is it's own success has destroyed it. MW2 was nowhere near as good as MW1 and with the massive success of MW we have seen a massive boost in the amount of shooters and first person games that want a slice of the pie.

You people are just as bad as your peers. They praise it up to the hilt and you flame it down to hell. Stop it. Seriously, have you stopped to consider how irritating it is when people go "Wahh the world keeps worshipping Call of Duty" compared to "Omggg Call of Duty is amazing"? Sounds the same, doesn't it? I said it before, and i'll say it again. All the hatred of CoD (particularly MW2 right now) is nothing more than zeitgeist and the "cool" thing to do. It's like you think it makes you some kind of connoisseur of video gaming just because you denounce the most popular mainstream title. It doesn't, it makes you look more like a snooty arse.

I like Call of Duty. I think it's a solid, streamlined game with good controls, good graphics, and astounding framerate. I enjoyed the story of both MW games and i think the guns have a fantastic feel to them when you fire them. It's as accurate as i am, and that's what i appreciate, as opposed to the actual gun being shitty and all over the place.

Edit: To all the people whining about the story, it's a first person shooter. What the hell are you expecting, Final Fantasy? Story in shooters is just context for you to go and kill baddies in, unless stated otherwise. Bioshock's focus was atmosphere, environment and story. This is shown in the five to ten minute introduction where you have to wait a fair while until you get a firearm. But this is a game about war. War. War doesn't have a particularly big plot to it when it's so closely tied to a non-fiction setting in the modern day. Be glad they put any story in it at all rather than "We're at war with because we don't like them, go go go!". People who expect ANYTHING revolutionary from a story in a military shooter has their head in the clouds.

COD: Finest Hour and MOH: Frontline are still my favorite FPS's ever.

There really is no need to be so rude, surely you can make your point without using insults.
Yeah and how are you not put on probation for this? I saw some guy the other day got busted for putting 'meh', which is frankly pathetic.

I have to admit I was disappointed that CoD MW 2 became the top-selling game in gaming history. I didn't want THAT to be the shining example for video games. Then again... it's not like Twilight: New Moon (the film with the biggest opening weekend ever) is a shining example for movies.

Success and greatness do not necessarily go hand in hand... unfortunately, while most people can discern that Twilight is not a good example of great filmmaking, not many people can discern that CoD MW 2 is not a good example of great game making.

While you have a point, there will always be the poster boy, no matter what you do. GTA has had its many turns there, almost all mainstream very popular violent games will do the same thing. Tis the way of life.

Meh, I liked it. The Spec Ops missions are just a blast, and yea, the multiplayer can be very rage inducing, but it can also be very fun. If I feel like working as a team, I'll pop-in BC2. If I feel like having mindless fun, Halo 3. If I feel like doing horrible things to foul-mouthed children on XBL, I play MW2. It's gratifying to hear them calling me immature names as I snipe them, it really is.
