I hate COD as well, but mainly because it's average, that's it. I'd buy it if it weren't for all the mindless hype that puts me off. It is not that great
I'll be one of the few to admit, I'm sick of hearing about 3d, which is growing more and more popular. I like my 2d tv and 2d films thank you very muchIronic Pirate said:Exactly, before it was GTA, before that it was Mortal Kombat, and before that I don't know what order games came out in.
People just *****.
Did you know they used to complain about theater? Yeah, that theater. New mediums are always considered evil by most people of the previous generation, at least for a while.
Don't worry, I complain about 3D too.Kaez said:I'll be one of the few to admit, I'm sick of hearing about 3d, which is growing more and more popular. While quite offensive to me in the opening paragraph as I am not a:"snooty arse" just for loathing a game before it was cool to do so you do have a point.Gralian said:You people are just as bad as your peers. They praise it up to the hilt and you flame it down to hell. Stop it. Seriously, have you stopped to consider how irritating it is when people go "Wahh the world keeps worshipping Call of Duty" compared to "Omggg Call of Duty is amazing"? Sounds the same, doesn't it? I said it before, and i'll say it again. All the hatred of CoD (particularly MW2 right now) is nothing more than zeitgeist and the "cool" thing to do. It's like you think it makes you some kind of connoisseur of video gaming just because you denounce the most popular mainstream title. It doesn't, it makes you look more like a snooty arse.
I like Call of Duty. I think it's a solid, streamlined game with good controls, good graphics, and astounding framerate. I enjoyed the story of both MW games and i think the guns have a fantastic feel to them when you fire them. It's as accurate as i am, and that's what i appreciate, as opposed to the actual gun being shitty and all over the place.
Edit: To all the people whining about the story, it's a first person shooter. What the hell are you expecting, Final Fantasy? Story in shooters is just context for you to go and kill baddies in, unless stated otherwise. Bioshock's focus was atmosphere, environment and story. This is shown in the five to ten minute introduction where you have to wait a fair while until you get a firearm. But this is a game about war. War. War doesn't have a particularly big plot to it when it's so closely tied to a non-fiction setting in the modern day. Be glad they put any story in it at all rather than "We're at war with because we don't like them, go go go!". People who expect ANYTHING revolutionary from a story in a military shooter has their head in the clouds.
FINALLY SOMEONE WHO AGREES THAT MODERN WARFARE IS CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!! *hi five*TheLefty said:(This mostly pertains to the Modern Warfare)
I'll admit.
I don't like the newer Call of Duty games, both modern warfares failed in my eyes, the only one I can think of that I enjoyed was World at War, even then that was just because of Nazi zombies. Call of Duty 3 was more enjoyable than the modern warfares. But I suppose I have to thank them for helping to make my hobby of choice mainstream, video games are pretty common place, and almost everyone I know has at least taken a stab at them.
But at the same time I have to point out that they make video games and (and teenage boys) look bad. At least where I live, "COD" has become almost synonymous with video game. You're playing a video game? It's assumed that you're playing COD. You're not playing COD? You're gay.
And even if you're not playing Call of Duty, someone you know is, and their non-gamer family member or friend will come and watch then kill people for two seconds and judge all games. Granted this goes for most games, but these thoughts are commonly brought up by Call of Duty, which has a horrible story, and (in my mind) doesn't stand out as an example of a "good reason to kill virtual people" (see Mass Effect, Red Dead Redemption or Fallout 3 among others for good reasons to kill virtual people).
If nothing else I have to thank the games for being the poster boy for games. Because of that, the jerks who don't care about researching and trying games (and a few who do, because the game generally get amazing reviews) flock to it, because they don't put in the work to find a good game. As such, they stay out of my Bad Company2.
Now, I'm not asking you to change your ways, if you like CODMW (pronounced kind of like codmwah) then play it, I just want to keep this game from ruining the greatest generation the Industry has seen.
Call of Duty's never been particularly realistic (even the first 2 in terms of gameplay) and it's definitely never been a squad based shooter.ProfessorLayton said:You know, Nazi Zombies is one of the reasons I hate the new Call of Duty games. You know, Call of Duty, the intense, realistic, squad based shooter that was always one of the most respectful tellings of World War II? The game that was always focusing on historical accuracy and sometimes teaching you about the battles and motives of the war? And then they bring in Nazi Zombies.
this is the write quote -.-TheLefty said:(This mostly pertains to the Modern Warfare)

And in fallout 3 its all the more gruesome. But i suppose thats why i love that game.MiracleOfSound said:Call of Duty you kill people to stop terrorists blowing up the world...TheLefty said:(

Fallout 3 and Red Dead Redemption, you can kill people outside of any context, for no other reason than your sick pleasure at doing so.
EDIT:
My point is that COD is not to be blamed for the perception of games as mindless violence. Blame Doom for that.
Where do you live? Doucheville, U.S.A?. Most people i know whose only exposure to video games is farmville and COD do not act like this and i am beginning to think that you are just pulling stuff out of your ass.TheLefty said:But at the same time I have to point out that they make video games and (and teenage boys) look bad. So what, some people will always judge a medium based on the most popular series and this pretty much applies to everything. Also, the story is not "horrible", name a good reason why it is bad. People need to stop making baseless statements/claims. And why does a video-game need a reason for you to kill? in MW2 you are in a war against the ultra-nationalists, so the reason for killing is present. And even if you're not playing Call of Duty, someone you know is, and their non-gamer family member or friend will come and watch then kill people for two seconds and judge all games. "These jerks do not deserve to play my games" this whiny, petty isolationist view-point is what makes us gamers look bad. HOW THE FUCK DOES THIS GAME RUIN AN ENTIRE GENERATION? Because its popular? because it shares some concept with other popular games? Now, I'm not asking you to change your ways, if you like CODMW (pronounced kind of like codmwah) then play it, I just want to keep this game from ruining the greatest generation the Industry has seen.
Apparently so, as many other people have commented that they haven't seen this behavior.Hyper-space said:Where do you live? Doucheville, U.S.A?. The storyline of MW2 is not exactly Primer level in complexity. Everything that transpires between your missions is explained in the debriefing. Hell i haven't even played the first game and i knew what was going on the entire time.TheLefty said:Apparently our reasons here differ. The story (in the first one at least) was barely put forward, and I couldn't follow it at all, with the exceptions of some stereotypical terrorist blowing up his own town.

I'd like to add on to Fallout 3. There is a very good reason to go insane and kill everyone. That reason is called Little Lamplight.TheLefty said:And even if you're not playing Call of Duty, someone you know is, and their non-gamer family member or friend will come and watch then kill people for two seconds and judge all games.
