Every time i play a new game i get bored in 10 mins and never want to touch it again and i don't know if i don't just give it a chance or i'm just a prick that hates everything that doesn't keep me amused for longer then 10 mins. i have played good game and played them though like portal, braid and half-life 1 and 2 but i don't want to get part 1 or 2 because i dint like 2 that much

but the think is i only like 1 in every 100 games that get game released but sometimes i play them but never Finnish them like RE4 and Amnesia

and i know it might not help but here are some games that i have liked

Counter-strike source - 400 hours
modern warfare 2 - 670 hours
Zelda oot - i had it on n64 and Game cube
F-Zero GX - I beat a worldrecord!
Fallout - idk because i don't know if i should count the 40 hours that it crashed on me
Minecraft - I liked it... fuck off

If any of you guys can read my mind and tell me what i might like please tell me
or if you agree with me that every game company need a hit in the head with a nailed plank of wood click on the little doodly da at the top

edit:
games i don't like

Just Cause 2
Black ops
Doom 3
mirrors edge
halo
trine
but just most games i pick up i don't like
and Alot of iphone games

Try WoW.

You seem to like addictive games. I'll be honest, you might not want to hear this, but perhaps farmvile is for you.

I'm not saying it to be a dick, but it's a game that is pretty much a cruise control with a sense of achievement.

As with any year or platform in gaming, there will always be a number of good/great titles and a seemingly overwhelmingly large amount of shovelware. I try to keep it in perspective: I'm generally quite good at picking out games that I know I'll like, and I get a nice variety of games every year.

Mass Effect 2 came out this year and it's easily one of my favorite games of all time. Same goes for Arkham Asylum last year. I also still enjoy PS1 classics like Crash Bandicoot, even though they were made in the late 90s. The difference is, I play PS1 classics for the gameplay and maybe a little bit of the nostalgic charm. I play games today because I really get involved in them.

So no, gaming isn't getting worse; if anything it's getting better. More options, better technology, better stories, etc.

It'd probably be better to give us an idea of what you havn't enjoyed, since we need to know what it is about games that causes you to grow bored so quickly.

Personally I enjoyed Minecraft and Zelda: OoT as well, so here are some recommendations for other games that sucked me in and didn't let go.

Assassin's Creed 2
Red Dead Redemption
The Witcher
Golden Sun 1&2

now granted I still got bored of them reasonably quickly, but that was only because I never stopped playing them, if I had paced myself more, they would have lasted ages. Not to menton just because I got bored of them doesn't stop me from going back later.

Maybe you should just accept that you don't really like videogames. Go outside, read some books or watch a movie.

Maybe you don't like games that much, do something else.

Or you can look for games that seem cool, watch some gameplay or something and if it looks really good to you, think about getting it.

All i can think of.

Try amnesia the dark descent in a dark room with surround headphones on.
He wants to play a fun game, not shit his pants and get insomnia.

OT:

Try Mass Effect, or maybe Pokemon.

Well, with the exception of Trine and Mirror's Edge, most of those games are relatively similar. Variety is key to avoiding boredom. For example, I've been on a bit of an RPG binge for the last month or so, but I've made sure to play several vastly different RPG's so as to avoid boredom. Mass Effect has been the one I've played most, but I've also been dabbling in Final Fantasy X and Pokemon SoulSilver. All RPG's, but all completely different in how they play.

Same idea goes for shooters; I can only play so many Call of Duty-esque games before I get tired. So, I vary it up with open world shooters like Crysis or team-based multiplayer shooters like Unreal Tournament or Team Fortress 2.

.

Who says Amnesia is not a fun game? You just need a strong pair of boots to stand in.
(sure 15 minutes in I had to take a break >.< but I find it an entertainable game. )

'Fun' is a relative term :3

OT:
If you don't want to shit your pants and get insomnia, theres always the retro approach. Go back to the NES, SNES times. Surely there are a few classics you can play hand have fun with. Or try the big time sink games like Oblivion for example. Maybe you have been looking into the wrong genres, who knows?

And out of all the games there must be something you can enjoy right?

edit: After re-reading I see you already gave Amnesia a try.
My bad ^^

Huh.

I'm finding the games coming out at the moment the most fun I've ever had, and this is from a 30 year old who's been playing since the mid 80s.

First of welcome to the Escapist (5 post means you're at least new to posting)
I don't know if you just don't like games and first I thought FPS was your style with source and ModernFare but then you had halo and Black ops down in don't like... Ever tried sports games like FiFa or NHL?
Also might want to give Zelda Twilight Princess a chance, way too many weapons but otherwise enjoyable game.
Hope you find something you like.
