Yes I am aware of the Apple Pippin way back during the N64 days, (it wwas a bust, look it up) but, surely today with all it's money and success with new products, should Apple have a second go? I don't see why not? Digital distrubution or disc? Mouse+keyboard, controller or both? Next gen or now? Ipod compatability?

Theories, opinions and ideas?

I guess because they don't feel the need to make one, and as you said: their last attempt bombed. Not really a murder mystery is it?

they think the ipod is a valid portable console.

but dear god don't let them make a proper one. they could charge $1000 for a turnip in a shiny white box and their fanboys would claim it's the best console out at the time and buy it in droves.

I suppose they're getting enough money from their iPods and iPhones and any other iThingies that they don't need to waste any money making a console that probably won't be able to compete with the current generation.

Because it'd be fail on a level not seen since the Atari Jaguar or 3D0.

Apple have a huge fanboybase, but it's NOT in gaming. They have big pockets, but not as big as Microsoft and Sony, they dont have the same ties with hardware manufactures (Microsoft with ATI, Sony with Nvidia).

And they are known the hit every market at a higher pricepoint because of they can get away with it on brand power alone.

If Apple did ever make a console i'd eat one of my many hats.

They do. It's called the iPhone. Didn't you hear? It's better for gaming than the DS and the PSP.

Or so Apple would have you believe anyway.

If they did make a full-on game console, the world would likely implode from unbelievable level of sheer pretentiousness. And how would they call it - iRagequit, or what?

They are making enough money from the iPhone. It is a valid platform for developers, so Apple already has a console, albeit a portable one. They wouldn't make a console now, because they don't have to. They have no experience in the hard-core gamers market, and are making too much money to worry about venturing into it now.

I doubt they feel as if they need one, and many people already have a console from this generation so the sales wouldn't be that great. I also believe it would be a pretty big gimmick and that even Apple fanboys would have doubts about it.

I don't have a PSP, so I don't know about that, but I far prefer to play on the iPod than the DS.

I think considering the iPod's success as a gaming platform, Apple will probably work on another console at some point.

How is it to live with absolutely no taste whatsoever?

There is one, the iPod Touch and the iPhone. The head of Apple was interviewed about the PSP and the DS and he said that the iPhone was there's with over 20,00 games.

I think that it is just a matter of time, but without the power of nostalgia I am curious as to how well it wil work in the market.

I think that apple are more focused on practical things such as phones, ipods, things which become intergrated into everyday life.

It'd be called something wanky like the iPlay too.

Personally i think Apple is currently making too much money from the iPod to care about breaking into the console market
