Right, so we've probably all seen the news now, but if not:

Personally, I think it looks pretty good, especially now that core games are on it. By the way, you should be saying whether you think it will be good, not whether it will be successful... so... yeah.

Too me it seems like a repeat of the Wii from 5 years ago. Great piece of technology for developers to work with, but all 3rd party developers will release is kids/family friendly games, while the only core games are from Nintendo. That being said, I think Nintendo has learned from the mistakes of the Wii and will do more core stuff and be successful at it, while still keeping their casual fans. The WiiU will probably be the best of both worlds of video games.

And I am totally not be bribed by Nintendo.

I was not very impressed with the games they are showing, nothing that good. The new console looks to be okay, but again, not very impressive to me. I did like the whole being able to use the controller itself as a 2nd monitor for games but all I see are a shit-ton more kiddy games coming for they system. If they actually keep their word (which I doubt they will) and support 3rd party games and adult/hardcore games then I might actually look into the system. Otherwise nope, not getting money from me.

The new console seems more like an upgrade than a real "next gen" system by the looks of it.

The controller looks all sorts of un-user friendly.

Bad. That controller is one of the worst I have ever seen. Sure the games might look better, but holy hell that controller.

First off, I need to get this out of the way...

HOLY FUCKING SHIT OH MY GOOOOOOOOOOOD HOW FUCKING AWESOME IS THAT THING!? JESUS CHRIST THAT'S EPIC AND I MUST HAVE IT!!!

Ahem... now that that's over with, I can be more measured and balanced here.

First of all, the name is tragic. I get annoyed with people bitching over something like a console's name, but to have what Nintendo hopefully see as a way to really get into hardcore gaming crowds again, having it a bright white plastic thing called a "Wii-U" is just... unfortunate, at best. I can just imagine going into the game shop now. "Yeah, can I get a copy of Darksiders 2? On the... on the Wii-U... yeah, just be discreet about it."

But name aside, let's get down to it.

It looks amazing. A lot of what they showed off in the introduction video seems kind of gimmicky. Particularly the golf thing... that's kinda a one-use "for a bit of a laugh" functionality. But there's a lot of good stuff there. The full HD visuals on the touch screen while the TV is on something else is awesome, and the integration of that screen into full-on gameplay could be really good depending on how restrained 3rd party developers are with it.

My hope is that they really do get the support for this thing. If they end up with sub-par 3rd party support and just fall back on their casual gimmicky games like they did with the Wii, it'll be a major blow to Nintendo that I really don't think they can afford to take right now.

I hope so much that this thing takes off because I really want one, but if it flops then the hardcore crowd's faith will be really shaken and Nintendo will risk losing what hardcore crowds they got back with the promise of this thing.

But with Arkham City ported, Darksiders 2, Ninja Gaiden and others that I can't remember, it has a lot of potential for them right now and they need to keep announcing more support to keep people hyping up for the release of this thing.

That controller looks much better than everything else on the market, except the original Xbox controllers.

Disclaimer: As a giant with huge hands, my opinions on controllers are the opposite of a normal person's when it comes to controllers.

I love the fact that you don't need a TV screen to play, especially as my parents like to watch the TV in the evening meaning I cant play on consoles :(

I love how little people clapped at the beginning of that youtube clip when he announced it.
EDIT: Ok, it just sounds quiet

So, what they've figured out is that the DS is actually good, so their main console will be a handheld? I don't understand...have they actually made a console?

That device looks absolutely absurd. Why would I need this device? I don't own a Wii, but if Sony did that, I would have absolutely no use for this worthless add-on. It acts as a controller and a Wii, but still is used like a motion sensor for the Wii. I didn't know that the Wii couldn't sense motion. Playing it like a handheld defeats the purpose of having a 3DS, which was launched very recently by the way. So why buy this thing to play Wii games on the go? It's a brick, and can already be done. Wasn't that one of the selling points, besides 3D capabilities? Nintendo has just spewed out another round of gimmicks and remakes this E3. Ridiculous. I wish they would go back to the old days of the Gamecube and before that. When they weren't using Apple as a role model.

Phew, got that one out of my chest. I'm, done being angry at Nintendo now :)

So far all I'm really seeing is info about a new controller. So its basically looks like the Wii but in HD with an tablet for a controller.

It seems cool enough, but I'm not really too sure about whether I am willing to buy it. If I didn't already own a Wii I probably would, but it seems too early to replace that for me.

So I'm still unsure, I like some of their ideas but need to see more.

Yes this is a good opinion. I like my tech to feel solid and nonbreakable that's why I don't like the iPod. Also I don't see why everyone is complaining about the size. As long as you can reach all the buttons, it's good in my book =D

Just to clarify
It's NOT a portable device, so it doesn't cut into the handheld market
It's NOT an add on. It's a completely new console that just has full backwards compatibility. If you don't have a Wii it doesn't mean anything.
Not trying to be snide they weren't completely clear in the press conference so it was easy to get confused

I think it could be really cool personally, however we won't know more after this holiday season since Nintendo is focused on marketing the 3DS.

Yes, they have. They just only focused on the controller, which is both a standard controller and a way to work additional gameplay mechanics into the games, in addition to some of what can only be described as "gimmick" functions.

...why not just buy a 20inch tv and use a normal console? Or use a laptop.

I used to respect them so much, it just angers me when they gimmick it up for the cash flow. Sony isn't doing too much better in the gimmick department either. 3G Wifi Touchscreen Touchpad and Dual Camera Dual Sticks (the only cool feature)PSP Vita. Hmph, I'm just gonna go ahead and stay grumpy like the old guy that complains about the weather.

I'm all for it. The specs make it look awesome, the features make it look awesome.
The proposed launch lineup look awesome (and with a lot more core stuff from Nintendo than the Wii initially had for its debut.)

All in all, looks awesome! The only problem I might have is with the controller. I hope it's not basically a tablet pad with joysticks and buttons attached, or that it at least has some grooves to account for hand shape, otherwise that might get uncomfortable.

RE-POST TIME!

1: WiiU is a stupid name. I mean you can't even make the immature penis jokes you could with the name Wii anymore. ("I'd like to Wii U!" sounds like you're into golden showers...)

2: Honestly, with the better online service, better third party support, the jump to HD, and first party games of Nintendo, what can Sony and Microsoft honestly do? Beef up the hardware more? Plus, WiiU is gonna have that head start in the next gen. I'm not saying they're gonna fail, hell color me VERY intrigued. Nintendo had clear justification to making a new console with new features. What about the other two?

3: As for the controller, a bit of placement of certain things kinda concern me, a better way to hold it would be appreciated, but overall I think it'll work. Devs just be smart with it. Know that they don't NEED to use every single feature.

4: Game line-up: Ninja Gaiden and Assassin's Creed has me the most excited. Battlefield 3 is a very pleasant surprise. The rest, kinda expected now that Nintendo has gone HD.

5: The whole thing with the split screen can actually be pretty damn cool, if devs are smart. And if Nintendo is smart, they'll utilize out-of-game as well. Navigating the home menu? How about browsing through the Nintendo E-Shop? Surfing Netflix? What about making a small keyboard on the tablet for input? This can a great thing if used right. And I trust Nintendo to be smart about this.

The controller seems really bad. I mean, if their using that as a complementary screen, that's gonna be hard on the eyes with it being a very different distance from the player than the tv. I only see eyeballs in pain from having to switch between the two.

I'm more interested in what the actual console is capable of, but they don't want to share that info (yeah, they've said "HD", but is it any more powerful than the xbox or ps3?). So, I'm on the "not interested" side at the moment.
