Unsure what to think as of now, oh, plus must add that I think Wii U has to be the worse name ever conceived by the game industry...period.

Yeah, pretty sure I'm not the only one posting this, yet I feel like I need to reiterate this as many times as possible. I'd say at least 10 times a day on any gaming forum, for the entire life span of that system....there!

That device looks absolutely absurd. Why would I need this device? I don't own a Wii, but if Sony did that, I would have absolutely no use for this worthless add-on. It acts as a controller and a Wii, but still is used like a motion sensor for the Wii. I didn't know that the Wii couldn't sense motion. Playing it like a handheld defeats the purpose of having a 3DS, which was launched very recently by the way. So why buy this thing to play Wii games on the go? It's a brick, and can already be done. Wasn't that one of the selling points, besides 3D capabilities? Nintendo has just spewed out another round of gimmicks and remakes this E3. Ridiculous. I wish they would go back to the old days of the Gamecube and before that. When they weren't using Apple as a role model.

Phew, got that one out of my chest. I'm, done being angry at Nintendo now :)
Just to clarify
It's NOT a portable device, so it doesn't cut into the handheld market
It's NOT an add on. It's a completely new console that just has full backwards compatibility. If you don't have a Wii it doesn't mean anything.
Not trying to be snide they weren't completely clear in the press conference so it was easy to get confused

I think it could be really cool personally, however we won't know more after this holiday season since Nintendo is focused on marketing the 3DS.
It's actually kind of weird. You can see the console itself briefly in the background underneath a huge TV if watch a video.

It looks very similar to a Wii. About the same size, but they laid it flat in the video (where Wiis are usually upright on a stand, although it's possible to lay one down flat as well.)

The only thing that made it apparent that it wasn't a normal wii was that the sides were curved.

I do wonder what kind of specs it has now that allowed them to shove it in such a small box, because the cooling on even Mid-range PC graphics cards is generally very bulky.
Well all we know about the specs so far is that it is capable of reaching 1080p. I'm assuming the controller will have hardware in it as well since it has to show the games as well. Maybe they work together somehow? Like half the hardware is in the console and the other is in the controller?

I'm not thrilled with the controller, I'd hoped they'd lay off the gimmicks.

And yeah, it looks at this point like Nintendo will always be a generation behind in terms of power/graphics.
There is hardly anything to catch up to.

POWER7 based CPU design from IBM, confirmed via press release and engadget being told it "uses Watson's brain". 45nm SOI manufacturing process being used. Looking at 3/4 core variant as that's the cheapest (3 core due to increased yields) and easiest to customise and so looking at 12-16MB L3 cache.

GPU looks to be based on the 5xxx series of cards as the press release from AMD/ATI mentions multidisplay tech (Ie. Eyefinity) that is first found on those cards. Can't really be from any higher due to power draw/heat dissipation limitations that will hamper designs for another few years at least.

No idea on the RAM as there hasn't been a statement from any of the RAM companies but with the CPU being used it should be at least 1GB to get the CPU running with 1.5-2GB being the most likely with that CPU.

It won't be worth it. Still, it's gonna sell like crazy. That console will be as powerful as PS3 and Xbox 360, but MS and Sony are already working on their new consoles that should come out in 2014. And did you see the controller?

Sorry, I wasn't thinking straight. High-end gaming laptops can shove quite powerful graphics hardware into a space about the size of a deck of cards. Comparing it to desktop parts was a little silly.

However, from the current information it seems we can rule out the controller doing much. Nintendo says it relies on wireless video streaming from the console.

That suggests it might just about have enough power to do video decoding, but not much else.

It does however suggest, given how they're demonstrating it being used, that the console has to be powerful enough to display 2 HD images at the same time.

Still, that probably doesn't mean all that much when you compare the work needed to display 1080p with that of high-end PC monitors.

It looks pretty awful.

Just seems to be yet more of the same thing, the promotional videos seem very keen on trying to get the "Casual adult gamer" audience, somehow believing that people past the age of 20 invite their friends around to play video games.
