What do ya'll think? If not, then which country (if any) will? China, India, Brazil, Germany and Russia have all been speculated to dethrone the US. So what do you think?

My new island nation, Potatolassia, shall rule the entire world by 2050 through a combination of space lazers and genetic supersoldiers. We shall have an army of robocops. Applications welcome.

NEW RULE: People with 10 posts don't get to make their own thread until they're up to fifty, and the RP section doesn't count.

In other news: No, China isn't going to supplant the U.S.

I'm going to be honest. If China ever becomes more economically dominant than us, we'll probably invade them. I'm not saying I want an invasion, it's just the likely course of events. Americans like being on top.

Netherlands FTW!

But of the options presented I'm torn between China and the US. I wouldn't be too surprised if in 2050 China will have almost a third of the world's population. They have the people, and I think they are headed towards the power and technology required. But 2050 is in 39 years, and while a lot can happen in that time, I don't know if the US will give up their position so soon.

Also, I'm kind of hoping that a rise to power for (for instance) China also involves a major shift towards democracy and capitalism, so that it won't actually be that big of an issue.

I'd say it could be any of those accept Germany. They're terrified of people thinking their Nazis again, and they're part of the EU, so they're crippled in that way.

Alternatively, whenever you try to post a topic, you must provide the url for a google search of Escapist Forums + . The assumption is that you check the results of that search.

Haha, sorry, I was just trying to start a conversation, I suppose this has been done before?? :p and I was less getting at whether it will supplant the US economically as whether it will become a cultural superpower, as the US currently is.

But never mind, I guess. Didn't realize I was being totally unoriginal!

Well, first of all, I don't really think any country is "the world's leading super-power". However China is probably the most important nation at the moment, simply because they produce everything. I don't think the US is the richest anymore, but even if it were, it wouldn't matter if there wasn't anything to trade.

My first post was a thread, and it got 72 replies, all positive. How I managed to pull that off I don't know. http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.276406-Weird-Pet-Peeves?page=1

OT: Unless World War 3 happens by then, I don't think much will have changed.

Without a doubt, China will overtake America easily. And continue to supersede any economy on Earth. BUT, as history has taught us, China's economy will eventually fail, causing massive economic depressions, and then they will be stuck in with the likes of Britain and Portugal.

Of course they're the the most important nation right now; every businessman in the world gets wet thinking about that fancy new market of 1.3 billion potential customers and the cheap labor available. So naturally most of the investments are focused on China, which both makes China stronger and returns a nice profit to the West(ern economical elite).

It's always funny how only the "general population" cares about stupid shit like this, while the people who actually matter are more than happy to have a new, stronger and richer China to exploit. There is no such thing as the "world's leading super-power", there's only money, and money couldn't care less about national pride.

Once China prospers enough to make the labor too expensive, most companies will just move on to the next big gig, probably India.

Hasnt china already supplanted the USA as a superpower?.When you have a country that your already owe major debts too i think you can call yourself replaced.

Also i do not think there will be a country that can call itself a super power for a while now due to the state of the world

I'm thinking the US will simply have to get used to not being the only superpower... and it won't matter who is "on top" at any given moment. Hopefully that leads to globalization.
