Microsoft has said the latest version of its internet explorer web browser puts it ahead of competitors like Google and Firefox.

Privacy and speed are being highlighted as two of the features that set IE9 apart.
"This release is one that is playing catch up [on past releases], but it leapfrogs everything and now you see the other folks on the back foot trying to catch up with us," Dean Hachamovitch, corporate vice president of Internet Explorer, told BBC News.

"With this release you are seeing innovation after innovation that other folks are catching up to. Hardware acceleration was something no one was talking about until we did it. No one else was talking about privacy and tracking until we did it."

I think thats some bold claims too be making. If i remember right the latest FireFox beta has Hardware acceleration too but im pretty bias towards Firefox so don't mind me.

But what are your opinions? Will you switch if everything is true?
I won't im to much in love with my plugins with my fox that's on fire :3.

I'm far to attached to FireFox to switch back to the abomination that is IE explorer, as it is I can't believe I put off making the switch for so long.

That statement is so incredibly dumb that that dude should be officially disqualified from talking about anything browser related again, ever.

And I generally HATE it with a fiery passion when somebody proclaims that they are now the definite leader and that everybody else has to catch up to THEM.
I really don´t think Microsoft is beloved and/or respected enough to just make such a claim without looking unbelievably arrogant.

I've always used IE. The one I always used and am the most used to. So it's the one I like more.

I Love Opera to be honest, and am saddened (well not really) that more people don't seem to use it!

Internet Exploder simply allows Microsoft more of a monopoly on the PC, so I won't be getting it even if it quadruples your speed, locks down your privacy and brings you drinks in the morning.

It'd have to bring my slippers and bacon before I switched, and even then it'd be a hard choice.

It depends on your definition of "beat," but if we're going by which browser has the largest number of users - than never. IE owns that category.

If we're talking about which browser has the largest support from the internets in terms of which browser a site is designed for - won't happen until more web developers start pushing to design their sites around other browsers . . . which probably won't happen until other browsers start becoming more widely used. See aforementioned point.

In terms of security and stability - I've never understood this argument for 3rd party browsers. The largest number of problems with IE revolve around people's inability to keep their software properly updated. Believe it or not, there are still a large number of users stuck on IE5.

In terms of features, plugins, and general flexibility - yeah, just about every other browser has IE whipped in those areas. Unless you're willing to go digging through WIN's registry to make some changes, but you run the risk of foobaring the OS majorly doing so.

No. Even if it is somehow suddenly awesome, it's had this reputation as the dorky browser your grandma uses for far too long.

Also, I swear to fucking god my Captcha had a fucking smiley face in it. How the fuck do I even type that?

I'll probably give it a shot to see if it's as good as they claim, but I really love my Chromium, so change is unlikely.

And a back-rub. And perhaps some cake. And have built-in narration with the voice of Stephen Fry.

Yeah, do those things, and I'll go back to explorer. Until then, Chrome for me.

If IE 9 can stop IE from freezing on me everytime I use it then maybe I'll use it.

However, Firefox and chrome have been consistently good to me so I'd keep to them.
