Skyrim could never hope to be that, IMO. As big and ambitious and fun (no doubt) as it looks, I look at Skyrim and I don't see a future of perks, 500 billion mile long game worlds and Radiant Story for the gaming world. I look at Ocarina of Time and shudder at the thought of a world where 3rd Person games don't have a lock-on feature, smart cameras or context-sensitive buttons for the many actions that kinda game would entail.

I don't think we live in a world of OoT's and FFVII's anymore. I think the closest things we have to such seminal games are Angry Birds and Minecraft, and out of those two I think Angry Birds is closer to the mark. Wildly popular, and ripoff of an older Flash game or not, Angry Birds the game that cemented how to make a mobile game in the minds of a LOT developers. Minecraft, as big as it is, created a new genre but influences nothing else outside of it. Talk to me after games begin implementing LEGO-esque building but for now, not a splash outside the genre it sparked.

Ocarina of Time had the "WOW" factor when you first played it. It'll be hard to replicate, as we've seen too much in gaming this last decade.

I'd be willing to go out on a limb and say that "World of Warcraft" was this decades' "Ocarina of Time"
Mostly due to it bringing the "WOW" factor back to the mix.

We won't see anything of the sort in the future until they come up with new technology, and then make a good game to go with it!

There's alot of good games nowadays, but none of them have made me go "HOLY F*CKBALLS THIS IS AMAZING!"

Virtual Reality would be my closest bet as to what can bring the "WOW" factor back into gaming!

won't be as good as that. I love this game.
Good is a relative term. LoL is a MOBA and I honestly don't care about those games at all because they're too competition-based and hit way too close to MMO online-dependent infinite-replayability for my comfort. Even if it was perfect (and no, it's not at all) it would be flawed at its core for offering an experience ONLY for multiplayer online, usually with random people, and that experience can be vastly different between people. Or even just between two matches on the same server, it can go from really fun to frustrating dung load. It's very dependent on players.

To compare Skyrim, a game that's SO single-player it's ONLY single-player to a game that not only has NO single-player component, but also no exploration and quests and level progression over the course of the game like you get in Skyrim. Both basically have NONE of the features of the other, so you're not just comparing apples to oranges, you're comparing a pickup truck to a pair of rocket-powered roller blades.
Yea, they are completely different. Learning curves on skyrim will be like all the other elder scroll games, baby's first video game. Your "MMO online-dependent infinite-replayability" will differ between people, because most are skill based. League of Legends makes for one hard game. Even you said it can be frustrating at times. I never said lol was a perfect game so that accusation is false. The large majority of gamers and humans on a psychological level like the feeling of accomplishment. Skyrim will use skinner box trickery for it's illusion of difficulty. League of legends has a banning system for bad players. When I said "Won't be as good as that" and was referring to league of legends. It won't be as good. Skyrim doesn't bring anything new to the genre, no new interesting things. League brought a more small team battle with great micro-transaction and a feeling of worth when playing in a rts. Where most rts games was building huge amounts of units and mowing down an area. Lol and DOTA brought a great view on 3v3 rts matches with a rpg leveling element in every match. Skyrim is another Elder Scroll with a bit more graphics and samey feel. Look at all the other rpg games, even when the first elder scroll was made..... nothing new.
