eh for now it'll be a niche, too much money and advertising is being sunk into it for it to go away again, but maybe in 10 years it'll be its own thing to stand on.
It's too complicated to become the new norm. Much like 3D TV hasn't taken over because you need to organise your TV room so that you're sitting in the right place except there's even more to worry about.
I'd be very happy for it to be a part of gaming but in order for that to work it needs to be relatively easy to develop or adapt existing games for. Without that VR games won't be able to make enough money to have good production values and visual design and without that what's the point at all. VR can't survive on the novelty factor alone.
I'm not particularly optimistic that it's last for more than a few years and have more than few token good games but I would really love to be proved wrong.
