I can't let it go. I'm sorry, I know Sony gave some really satisfying knees to the nuts of MS at e3 and their console is definitely more inviting than the xbone and even if there are legitimate reasons for them to need to charge for online play, that fee for online play (along with the rrod) is the reason I bought a ps3 instead of a 360.

The crazy thing is that I was actually considering getting + as a cheaper alt to gamefly before e3. Being told that it's required just gives me a cold chill. Maybe I'm just being nitpicky.
What do you think? Is the requirement enough to stop you from buying a ps4?

These CONSOLES are making me THIRSTY!

I definitely intend to get a PS4 at this point but I don't think i'll be paying for PS+ as i'm not much of an online gamer. Then again, since most of my friends are probably going to be switching over from Xbox to Playstation this generation it might be worth just to be able to play with people I actually know.

Well, given I will be having a 60 dollar hole in my budget since I will not be renewing my XBL subscripition next year it won't be a big issue for me. Based on everything I've heard it sounds like a great service so I won't complain so long as they at least maintain the features they have now.

Nope. As someone who's been a Xbox Live Gold member for a couple of years, I'm used to the idea of paying for multiplayer so PS Plus is just that but better, since it comes with all that good free stuff.

Yeah, it's a bit sneaky that they added it, but not a huge dealbreaker by any stretch. And if this extra money helps improve their online services like has apparently been said then I'm all for it, so that I don't have to wait an age to download stuff.

Thread question is different from the question being asked by the poll and OP.

It doesn't impact me in any way. The only time I've ever connected my consoles to the internet was to download or update things.

PS+ gives enough extra things that I would feel justified in paying for it if I did actually care about online multi-player, though.

I don't play online so it doesn't affect me - I'm still on the fence as to whether I get a PS4 or build a PC - however it's not a great move by Sony. This has gotten a fraction of the negative publicity that such a move would have done because of how insanely badly M$ is doing and Sony making a lot of opposite consumer-friendly moves.

Although many people love PS+ for as far as I can tell, very good reasons, this move by Sony will now set paying for online multiplayer as a standard. Which I think sucks for the gamer(that isn't me).

Though I probably won't be able to buy a PS4 this gen, if I were to, I'd be paying for PS+ anyways. The small fee you pay is made up for by the freebies that come with it.

The online play restriction doesn't bug me, since I'm primarily into single-player games.

If more people paying for PS+ means better servers for downloading game and system updates, then I'll gladly be a non-paying single-player gamer getting the benefit of that for free :)

I very rarely play online anyways so while it sucks and would be something to change my mind normally right now it isn't a big deal. If the Xbone wasn't so awful I would likely care more.

I tend to play a lot of local multiplayer so that is a huge selling point for me which I guess it worth mentioning.

I rarely play console games anymore, and even when I do, they aren't multiplayer, so it doesn't really bug me. Though if I did want to play multiplayer, PS+'s benefits are enough that I wouldn't be bugged by it. So I guess I'm in the "Other" camp.

If they keep the free games I'll pay for it, if not I rarely play online so it's not a big loss.

I play a lot of local multiplayer too but that seems to be getting phased out in favor of online multiplayer. If the next gen phases it out even more, what's the point?
That's one thing the PC alternative needs to improve on, especially since more and more people hook their gaming pc up to a tv.

I can't get past it either. PS+ has some definite advantages, but I have tried it and personally it isn't for me. If I'm paying for a subscription service where I get free games I'd rather just be able to choose the games I want. It's a bit of a risky purchase from my point of view, just because you can't foretell what games are gonna get deals, or come out free. I might subscribe for 3 months and then have nothing I'm interested in be a part of PS+ at all.

It's a good service for some, but it should never have been attached to online play at all.

If the service stays as excellent as it has developed into over the last year or so, most definitely.

I said it with Live and I'll say it with this: JUST online play is no longer enough for me (especially when it's riddled with advertisements as well).

I have no problem paying for a service. Shit's not free and the PSN just plain can't keep up with Xbox Live without something coming in. IF it was just online access, I'd reject it like I was going to reject Xbox Live (now I'm rejecting Xbox period but that's a different story...) but as long as I'm getting something that I think it worth $5 a month, I'll gladly pay. A handful of PS3 games and a handful of Vita games that is constantly rotating is more than worth it in my opinion.

Does not affect me, I don't play console games online, that is reserved for PC.

I largely don't do online multiplayer (Borderlands 2, the rare game of DOTA2....that's it).
The PS4 is going to need to sell me on game selection.

I bought a year's worth of PS+ membership 3 days ago. It rules.

I had been contemplating getting it a while back and this new announcement pushed me over the top. Now I get Uncharted 3 and Vanquish and Deus Ex for free, all 3 games I wanted to try. I also bought the season pass for the walking dead for just 5 bucks. For a type of gamer like me, focused on a small number of competitive games and a few obscure Jrpgs, the free addition of those games is a very nice thing. I'd never have dragged myself out of training in Blazblue to go buy either of them but their simple availability made the siren song all that much louder and trying them out I ended up enjoying some fresh experiences.
