For those who do not know, Microsoft recently clarified its position regarding rumours about requiring an internet connection and used game sales being restricted for its next-gen console. [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/7.409900-Microsoft-Addresses-Xbox-One-Concerns]

Sadly, it does appear that the majority of user's concerns were true; and the forums are having a shit storm about it (rightly so, to be fair).

What I'm curious about is, how has this changed the position of gamers? Has this news meant that a significant amount of people are no longer going to buy the console? Perhaps the clarified position has even persuaded some gamers that its not too bad and that they'll buy it now?

While the comments seem to suggest most people are dissuaded from buying the Xbox One now, I decided to try and poll it to get a sense of exactly how many potential customers Microsoft has lost, compared to people who weren't considering buying it anyway.

So? yeah! Xbox One: considering the recent news, yay or nay?

I wasn't going to buy one anyway, but this bullshit just confirms it.

I'm not supporting this anti-consumer bullshit, Microsoft aren't getting a cent off me for this. I'm fucking done.

The announcement has persuaded me to get an Xbox One instead of a PS4, because I'll no longer need the discs to play.

I've not bought a used game or sold any of my games for over a decade. I'm already used to having to be online periodically for Steam.
The thing that annoys me the most about my consoles over my PC is needing to constantly juggle discs.

If being online one every 24 hours means I don't need to bother with that, count me in.

I'm not sure how this has changed things. My plan was to buy one when the hardware was cheap and there were a ton of cheap exclusives, 3 or 4 years down the line. But without used games sales prices for old games are likely to stay high, prohibitively so. It might never be worth it now.

Where's my option that says "fuck 'em?"

Not only am I not buying that console, I'm not buying it with A Vengeance.

LoL...that sounded dumb and cheesy. :p

Wasn't going to anyway. I'd already settled for sitting the next generation out on a PC. And yeah, I know, DRM is a PC problem, always online is there if you use Steam and so on, but my original reason to switch to consoles no longer applies and getting a PC will allow me to enjoy the PC exclusives I couldn't play this generation.

And you know, that Kinect thing with "explicit permission" being required for data going to some remote server doesn't mean much if "explicit permission" is included as part of an EULA.

Nope. Convinced all of my friends and family who have Xbox 360s - seventeen in total - to not buy Xbones as well. Fuck 'em. I hope they burn.

Perfect fit for your avatar then, ain't it?

OT: Not a chance in hell. Before the actual reveal, I was contemplating it, but once that hit, I knew there was a snowball's chance in hell I'd actually get one. The confirmation that M$ really is that dumb didn't do anything but affirm my decision was the right one.

If Sony does this too....may consoles burn in hell. Or at least let the wii win again, only by a wider margin

I will buy the Xbox One if it shows ALOT and I mean ALOT of enticing games. Halo is my favorite franchise but it won't be enough.

I was somewhat disinterested in the console market after my disappointing experience with the xbox 360. I literally only still own it because it makes a handy monitor stand.

The restrictions placed on it makes it an inferior computer to me, and if I want to spend half a grand, I'd rather upgrade my current PC.

No maybe option? I personally am not affected by any of the things that put people off, so I may buy it. The big question for me is whether of not the One is more reliable than the 360 at launch.

This is ridiculous. Microsoft, get this through your head.

No one did. It's like they want to lose this generation so badly so they can leave the console market and focus on screwing up Windows even more.

Your poll stated a question that could have been answered with a simple "Yes" or "No". As it stands the answers that you provided for selection, while trying to get a specific feel only gave a few options that didn't hit all the possible outcomes fairly.

Something to try for a future poll (or at least an idea to help you plan) could be something like this:

1- I was never going to get one no matter what. (no - no)
2- I was pretty sure I wasn't going to buy one and this news confirmed it. (maybe no - no)
3- I was pretty sure I wasn't going to buy one but this news changed my mind. (maybe no - yes)
4- I was pretty sure I was going to buy one but this news changed my mind. (maybe yes - no)
5- I was pretty sure I was going to buy one and this news confirmed it. (maybe yes - yes)
6- I was always going to get one no matter what. (yes - yes)

What you have (and it's a good start) is:

1- I wasn't going to buy one anyway. (no - no)
2- I was thinking of buying one, but this news has put me off. (maybe yes - no)
3- I was concerned about DRM (even though there are a few other things people could be concerned about), but MS's announcement persuaded me to buy one (maybe no - yes)

Of course, all that seems like a lot of work. There are even more answers that people could have in regards to getting an Xbone or not. So the simplest way to cover all your bases would be:

1- Yes
2- No

Hope your research goes well.

A system that essentially becomes useless the day after the servers get shut down? That sounds great! Also, do you have any bridges for sale, cause I'm looking to buy!
