Erm... the xbox has had that system since DLC was first released on the first xbox...

Either way, the rumour is just blatant trolling, there is no way to make the system work, and quite frankly MS wouldn't really want to upset their fanbase, so much money comes from people buying extra content for their games, so limiting who can play those games would hardly help them at all.

I doubt that's at all true, seeing as no retailers would stock the darn things if they couldn't make long term cash from it.
But I probably wouldn't hold off on buying it, I'd just wait for game prices to go down, play everything a year or two behind the times, apart from big releases like CoD or Dark Souls that I pay full price for regardless.

Honestly, this wouldn't bother me. Considering I usually buy games when they come out or I buy them new anyways - I don't like used games, how the cases look, the stickers on them...I'm OCD about it.

But I definitely understand how this bothers people. If they did this, they need to drop the prices of games from eventually being 65 dollars and to like 45 or 50.

Plus, I won't be buying another Xbox unless they have good exclusives that will last. As much as I like it, I'm envious of the many exclusives that PS3 has while I'm left with Halo and not even a Gears of War fan.

I mean since many games dont need a code or a online account to play!
They could make it compulsory.

Anyway, in this highly unlikely situation, yes, it would be a dealbreaker. But they said the same thing about the PS3.

i really don't understand why people are getting into such an uproar like this doesn't pc already do this with the code that comes inside the box when you buy a game? what's the big deal? it's not a new concept

I really don't think Microsoft would head down that route. That would result in a MASSIVE amount of lost sales for them. I know they'd lose me as a potential customer. I buy a fair amount of games used, mainly ones I'm skeptical about.

I get the feeling this rumor is no where near true though. Microsoft is in the console business for the money, I highly doubt they would do something that would make them less money.

If this feature is included in the next gen xbox, the only way I would be tempted to buy it is if it's backwards compatible. I doubt this is the case so I probably will be going back to the playstation.

First of all, that's a stupid name. This:

is 360 degrees.

And this:

is 720 degrees.

OT: Yes, but I'm most likely not going to buy it anyway. I don't like Microsoft hardware.

This would be a deal breaker for me for several reasons.

#1. I still rent games on my console. Implementing this would undo anyone's ability to rent anything ever again.

#2. The games I own, I want to show to other people. If I where to do this with the new system, I would have to bring my entire fucking console over just to play one game. Instead of just the game itself.

#3. I play in fighting game tournaments, and this would make organizing and running a tournament much harder then it should be. Its already hard enough with all the dlc and other non-sense, but having one disc only working on one and only one system would make it the logistics of running a tournament much more of a hassle then it needs to be.

So, fuck you 720. If this is real, your not getting my money. Sony is.

Didn't GAME or Gamestop/spot or whatever refuse to stock that Resident Evil 3DS game because they couldn't sell it on? I really doubt this rumour is true.

and to answer the question no I would not, but I'm a PS fanboy so I wouldn't get one anyway, However is Sony pulled this and MS didn't I'd do an Italy.

Also, what if you console breaks? and you need a new one? You need to refresh your entire gaming library as well?

I hate it when the poll question doesn't match the thread title.

If it somehow blocks used games, I will not buy it. Don't they realize how important used games are to consumers? Unless they are prepared to ship a 1TB HDD with the console and have Steam christmas-type deals, this will sink them.

The big deal is:

- The big three won't have sales like Steam.
- Putting in codes with a controller sucks.
- Consoles are supposed to be plug n play without all the problems of PC gaming.
- The used market is more important to the industry than it realizes. If they kill the used game market, I hope it crashes the entire video game market so we can start anew. The greed is out of control

Escapist, I am sick of trying to decipher CAPTCHA's.

It would be a dealbreaker. The 360 isn't exactly home to a bunch of great exclusive games, so I wouldn't see the point of buying the new one over a gaming PC if this were the case.
Be careful dude, I can see the Halo fanboys queuing up behind you to take turns beating you.

But in all seriousness, while I'm not exactly a console person anyway, should this rumour turn out to be true then I wouldn't get the 720 or whatever it's going to be called.

I don't know if I'll get the system regardless of if it plays used games or not, but my question is this, what will happen to services like Gamefly? Surely they're not cracking open brand new games every time they ship one out. Would someone who uses Gamefly and has an Xbox 720 be royally screwed?

To me the whole idea sounds ridiculous. I love the 360 (even though I currently don't own one) and would like to get back into the systems and support Microsoft, but if it's at the cost of how I primarily acquire games then I'm not sure I can be on board.

The only reason I ever considered buying a 360 was to play Red Dead Redemption. A used 360 and a used copy of RDR would cost slightly less than a new RDR since I'd sell the 360 after I'm done with RDR.

Since something like this wouldn't be possible with this hypothetical (but I believe quite likely) version of xbox, I wouldn't buy one. I doubt the exclusive catalogue will sway my decision.

Lies.

Even if it isn't lies, that is pretty sad. Sure maybe Game Stop style used game sales are bad for buisness, but in no way is a second hand market itself bad for buisness.

Besides how would you ever get a copy of some of the wonderful games of the past you might not have had the money for at the time if you never buy used or borrow? Unless you are so hopped up on the "woo is us publishers" sob story that you would actually wait for them to re-re-release it in digital format for whatever console they feel like, when they decide to get around to it.
I'd believe him, I had a choice between a new or used copy of dead space, I still picked new.

I always buy new

The end of the Golden Age of Console is near. I don't think the next generation of console will sell well especially if eliminating the secondary market is true.

The video game industry is the only industry that try it best to kill the secondary market. In other industries they try 110 to promote the secondary market because without it they be out of business.

For example: Magic the Gathering. Wizard of The Cost does not get a penny from the secondary market yet they promote it by improving the value of the individual cards being sold. Same thing with sport cards companies. Without the secondary market they would go out of business.

Without the secondary market game console cannot compete with PC and mobile gaming. Good luck in trying to beat PC and mobile gaming price point without the secondary console market.
