I can see the appeal of this franchise but it's just nothing of personal interest.

This game is the T.V equivalent of Family Guy.
Over the top childish humour and shock humour with mediocre gameplay.

No thanks.

Well, I rented SR3 from Gamefly and have been playing it non stop for 2 days. I prefer SR3 over GTA4.
You have good taste my friend!

Maybe I'll go and buy it on Steam if they have one of those tempting sales.
you both have good taste!

I prefer the saints row series over GTA 4, GTA 3 and GTA Vice City combined! And yes I thought some of the items in SR III were too silly (Squid Gun & the Genki Cannon to name two) but I just don't use them!

Eh... maybe. Might not be a preorder.

I liked Saints Row 2. I liked that Saints Row 3 fixed most problems of Saints Row 2's pretty horrible animations, weapon balance, upgrade system, respect system, ammo management (ten shots in a pistol costing $300 SR2, come on), and general PC clunkiness like co-op and your phone.

However, I detested Steelport. Compared to Stilwater, it was emptier, slower, less interesting, and really not fun. Stilport had varying road levels, empty warehouses to stage fights in, underground areas, a stocked airport and college, tons of different stores, a mall, and tons more. SR3 only had empty storefronts and I guess an airport (where half the planes are props and can't be flown). The only buildings which had any actual inside are the ones you go through on missions, then leave and never return. Customization took an enormous dive too, and SR2 is all about customization.

Depends, really, on what they did to Steelport and the game's customization. If they fleshed out Steelport and revamped the customization, I'm on board.

Well, I watched an LP of the third game and it struck me as being extremely fucking shitty. A GTA-style game that stands out because it goes over the top with silliness. From what I've read, the fourth game will be even more absurd. No thanks, that isn't for me.
^Pretty much this. Saints Row 2 was great because it had great customization, fun gameplay and a decent story. All Saints Row 3 had was over the top sillyness and I for one found it more tiring than fun. Going further overboard doesn't strike me as an interesting move, but I guess some people enjoy it for what it is.

Well before I would have said no but recently I bought 2 off of arcade and now, I want to see more of these characters. I don't like it as a game really seeing how it feels like I am just chasing cutscenes and the rest, well I have said it before; once you've played Vice City you've played all the City Sandbox games. But I like the characters and I was sold on 3 before 2 so I think I'll be able to digest the wackiness much better than those who came from 2 and went into 3 ?blind?. I know what I'm getting with the later games and I'm fine with it really.

THE PART THAT?S RELEVANT TO THE TOPIC!

It took some time, but now after having become familiar with the world and characters. I like what I see. I like that Instead of it being another Sandbox City Crime game I?m getting a cheesy over the top self aware action movie.

Yeah I'll buy this game...

In two years when all the DLC is out and they are selling the complete edition on the shelves for 40 bucks and I can buy it used because if I can help it I don't want to give this anti-used games money grubbing studio one cent of my money.

When I can get it with all DLC in one packet, and it being uncut in Germany, yeah.
(I only got Saints Row 3 this week as part of the Deepsilver bundle, since this is exactly the case there)

Liked SR2 and SR3. Enjoyed the trailers for SR4, but I'm in oz so I get the neutered version, right?
No. When L4D2 came out with it's gore-less aussie edition I did not buy it right away. I eventually picked it up for $2.50 on sale. In that way I might eventually get SR4. But not on launch. If it's any consolation to the devs, I wont pirate it either.

Eh, probably not.

I had a lot of fun with Saints Row: The Third, but not enough to pretty much do the same thing again in Saints Row 4. There's a lot of games coming out at the end of this year and I've trying to make good decisions on which games to buy. If anything, I'll be purchasing GTAV instead, not to mention Batman: Arkham Origins, as well.

Like I said, I had fun, but...nah, I'm good.

Should be a rent option in poll
Not for me, I'm starting to get bored games that aren't rpgs. Looking forward to next gen hopefully revitalizing shooters and open world (such as watch_dogs SEEMS to be doing)

I'm going to rent it, if it's any good, I'll wait & buy GOTY. SR3 was a bit of a letdown after SR2.

I chose 'maybe' because I don't buy games on blind faith any more.

The fact that it will have mod support is is a plus. Or was that only for 3? I can't imagine it was.
But I'll still wait on the reviews nonetheless.
On a somewhat related note do anyone know if they put in any actually interesting melee weapons this time?
I guess modding could fix that if they didn't though.

Going to preorder it as soon as I get enough money. I haven't played the first, but I loved the second and third games and I'm sure I'll like SR4 as well. It's just the kind of thing I've been missing. Just pure, unrestrained insanity.

I'm in a very weird place right now with Saints Row 4. Now the Saints Row series is probably in my top 10 Game series (top 5 if I compact all of MegaTen into one) but there are a few things I'm trying to keep in mind here.

1. I did not like SR3 as much as SR2, so I'm a little wary on SR4 (though to be perfectly clear here, I did still enjoy SR3, and will probably enjoy 4)
2. I'm still bummed that I didn't wait to just buy the SR3 Full Package edition that came with all the DLC and such. I'm usually very strict about waiting to do that with games (Skyrim: Legendary Edition, both Arkham games, etc. etc.)
3. However...Amazon will give me $10 for free if I pre-order Saints Row 4

So basically, I just have to ask myself an important question...do I want to buy the game now sans future DLC and get a free ten bucks...

Or just wait a bit and get the fuller version of the game?

It's actually a tricky scenario for me, so if anyone could help me with this decision, I'd appreciate it greatly.

For the record, I have absolutely no issues at all in waiting for the game, so "You could play it sooner" isn't an issue for me and won't influence my decision.

I would wait for the full package. It's price will be the same as the game at launch.

I'll buy it for sure. When? When there's going to be a Steam Sale with it, and when it's going to include all of the DLC. Not before.

I just love how the series progressed from an unremarkable San Andreas clone to an absolute schizo spaz-fest of urban culture, Dubstep and ridiculous pink Anime professor thingies.

Sorry, Rockstar. You were at your best and brightest when you still could be bothered to includes shades of the Cray-Cray in your game design docs. May Payne 3 felt like you'd sacrificed much of what made the series work in order to rejig Max from a gleeful hardboiled stereotype to a grizzled alcoholic. Why?

Because realism.

Screw realism, seriously. It has its place - but in moderation. The scene where the Branco kid dies after being wedged in a pile of tires and lit on fire? Too much, Rockstar. Too fucking much.

This is what I'm going to do. It makes sense and hasn't let me down yet.

Maybe. I got Saints Row 2 and 3 through bundles(third one twice even >.<). Have only played the third so far and it brought me 20 hours of moderate fun. A bit over the top though.
Won't buy SR4 for full or even half price however. If I get it it'll be through a bundle like the others.
