I don't really care; I use Win7 and it works well, so I won't be switching to 8 when it comes out.

It'll fail... god I hope it fails... teach Microsoft a lesson about what the true draw of their OS is, or at least should be... so they can stop aping Apple...<.<

Windows 8 will be great for tablets and home theater PCs. I use it on our HTPC and it is awesome. I haven't used it on a tablet or a computer with a touch screen but it seems like it would be really nice. I don't really like Metro for my desktop but the performance increases might make me switch anyways. I think that the average consumer might like it more too, my grandparents actually know how to use a computer now because of how simple Metro is (it's pretty much iPad level, one button that takes you home and one app at a time if you use metro apps).

edit: Even if it fails I say good for Microsoft. It seems like more and more companies are too scared to try anything, look at the gaming industry or the automotive industry. I may not like where it is going but I've learned something recently about technology, it's not really built for me anymore, it's built for the masses.

I put I don't care since you have made quite a limited poll, theres no option for it will be fine. Let face it other than all the doom and gloom from the other threads and the fact the majority of haters are just following notch and the others around, Windows 8 isn't that terrible, so far my the only thing I don't like is metro and the fact they took away dvd playback (I don't even use dvd's anymore, but still it's a pretty core component).

And no I don't like Windows 8 that much, I think Windows 7 is far better because it actually properly caters for desktops, Windows 8 will likely be a hit on tablets and anything that has a touchscreen.

As far as I know, it's just the next version of windows. I'd like to think Microsoft is upgrading and people who use say it works fine. But then most people want it to bomb horribly and refuse to have it installed. Haven't seen it for myself so I don't know what to think.

I'm glad this forum has largely moved on from feminism / gender wars / gun control debates, but sheesh ...

...

Alright, OT:
It will probably be best suited for the mobile devices market, since Windows 7 is still perfectly fine for the PC market.
Any bets on the next flavor of the month?
"Is it sexist to to be friendzoned by the Windows 8 you raped with the gun you own?"

OT: Obligatory "groan this thread again". Other than that, I don't know. I've not followed Windows 8's development on purpose. I am just not interested one bit. Also, that makes me not qualified to answer questions about the future. As I've said before, I'll try it on a VM and see if it is any good.

Also, I'll probably buy and install it properly, if it comes with Scarlett Johanssson and/or Emma Watson or equivalent.

I think it'll be fine. A vocal few will *****, but then get used to it, but then it'll be the same lot who'll ***** when windows 9 comes out and is a bit different again.

Windows 8 is a classic case of if its not broken lets fix it anyway. It looks to me Microsoft changed a ton of things that worked just for the sake of changing something.

MS also looks like its trying to cut out developers just so people are forced to use MS' windows store.

I don't really care. I'm just afraid Microsoft will enforce purchases through its store for desktops[footnote]This is Microsoft; they're bound to get greedy later. And if they do, I called it.[/footnote], other than that it's 7 for tablets. There will still be 7 and the Linux distros if Win8 crashes and burns.

Unless they send a Microsoft representative with a gun round to my house and hold me up at gunpoint to change installations from 7 to 8, I don't really give a fuck about it.

Agreed. It is pretty, umm, reluctant, when it comes to setting up everything (that hidden menu on the right of the screen thing is a *****, and I still miss the Start button) but on a TV Metro works well. I won't be running it on my desktop, but on my livingroom PC where all it needs to do is program TV recording, play TV and movies, and boot games it is really quite good. As long as you don't need to dig into it to set stuff up. Also it is super cheap compared to previous MS OSes. $40 for an upgrade from XP, Vista, Win7 or even the consumer preview? That is Apple OS cheap!

Already been using it on a VM and it is brilliant. It is efficient, fast, well organised, easy to use. Everything an OS should be.

As soon as I heard it was being designed for touchscreen interfaces and looked like the iPad's interface I stopped caring. Yes I know that there are other modes to run it in, I just don't care. Win7 works more than well enough for me, so unless I need the upgrade to do something I won't get it, kinda how I was with XP to Vista. (Granted I skipped Vista completely and moved to 7, but that's beside the point, I needed a 64 bit OS, and XP's 64 bit version sucks, so I swapped to 7.)
