I think its that this character is an established character not an open blank slate like say the Grey Warden in Dragon Age Origins.

[Yes but let's remember that Geralt is not gay. He just isn't, this has been established in the books. It's not homophobic to have a main character that's straight.
Yep it's true....and you know that old saying kinda holds true when one gets the urge to go against cannon.

*ahem*

"Thats what (well written) fan fiction is for."

On my phone so I can't quote long passages.

I'm not really talking about Witcher, just RPGs in general. Every game is going to be a bit different. But there's no reason why a game like Mass Effect doesn't operate under Captain Jack rules where everyone is pretty much open to anything. But if there's a reason it shouldn't be in the game (such as fidelity to source material) then I have no problem with it.

I didn't say that Witcher 2 specifically should feature gay romance options, my statement was more general.

I like the option when it's supposed to be your world and wholly YOUR character. Dragon Age is a great example. In that type of situation, everyone should be able to have a suitable romantic option or, like you said, avoid it altogether.

However, I don't support basically forcing every main character in existence to be bisexual just to please everyone. That makes no sense, really.

Edit: As far as porn, I don't really think it has a place in games either. I remember playing GTA for the first time and seeing the car rock. That's about as graphic as it should get, in my opinion. It's like people going into every detail when it happens in a novel.
It just leaves you wondering, "wait, what did that have to do with anything?"

The main problem with sex in games is that it usually looks fucking awful. Heh.

Witcher 1 and 2 is probably the only games that have implemented it in a satisfactory manner.

W1 in the playboy manner W2 in the more romantic manner.

The most important thing with romance in games might surprisingly be the foreplay. Where they talk. It seems realistic in W2, not hollywoodified. In addition, if you cant make decent (very good) animations, dont bother. Show something else instead, and if you're smart, something funny. Like in W2. The dwarf guy. Fun. This is the way to do it.

I put it forth as almost quantum sexuality. Unless you open the box, you don't know which way they swing. From the outside, they may be straight or gay... but if you pursue, they conveniently go the other way for you. The games are kind of wish fulfillment when you have characters like Miranda. Just go all the way with the wish fulfillment.

Oh how I wish it were true. Alas Geralts gay, male elf lovin' alter ego will have to remain in my artwork and fan fiction....*sigh*

*smacks self again*

I should go play DA2 again before I type myself a mischief. >_<

I think you're missing the point, giving characters options to have sex with both men and women isn't forcing bisexuality, it's allowing the player to create the game world that he or she wants to and lets them role-play more accurately. If you only pick the straight options, your character's straight, if you only pick the gay options, your character's gay, and if you do a bit of both your character's bisexual.

If Bioware wouldn't try so hard to make a big deal of their romance options and politically correct sex we wouldn't have this kind of pointless discussions.
I bet they never understood that the cool thing about "romances" in older games was that they functioned more like easter eggs and not as a serious feature abused for marketing tricks.

Geralt's straight. Ramdomly making him gay'd mess up his personality. Although, I want the romance options to be for everyone I'd rather have a decent, not-schizofrenicly designed main-character.

And, besides, we have Bioware to make the ability for your character to be LGB & P, we don't need another contestant.

And, I don't care if I have to hit on the guys or girls. As long as I can get on with my quest.

Or, here's an idea: Not every game needs romance - fuck it.
