it was fun... but the game is way to unbalanced and when they do balance it properly the people who used to be OP start nagging and say that everyone kills them (isnt that what balance is about?? everyone able to be killed by everyone)
and obliviously blizzard listens

now anyone who plays wow and is going to flame this
ill bet a 100 of any currency that your class ingame = Rogue/Warlock/Paladin/Death Knight
Blizzard does the best they can. And I think they balance it as best they can when it comes to PvE; every class has a role. As for PvP, that's hard.

And I play an orc warrior. I'll be taking that $100 US now.
Surely you should take a stronger currency then exchange it into dollars?

Anyhoo, I liked WoW played it for a bit got to like level 20 then got a new computer and couldn't be arsed to spend 5/6 hours installing and patching.
Upon getting back from a trip to Korea, I really like it now and am going to begin fresh once I get a job again.

I've been playing it since 2006, and I personally think its the best in its genre. Meh, here's a checklist.

- It truly is a World of Warcraft. The whole environment is really massive and all the zones are varied enough that you never run out of nice scenery. The fast travel system (Gryphons/Wind Riders) involves you flying over and seeing all the zones and players on the way. This sounds simple but there is a lot to be said about immersion.

- The combat is pretty good. Gone are the days of standing there repeatedly hitting the same thing with one key. There are a lot of different spells and abilities your character can use, and all the classes are fun. Even the "underpowered" ones.

- There is a lot to do in this game. You never have a situation where you are forced to just sit in one spot and kill the same thing over and over. There are dungeons you can run, there are always quests you can do. Hell, you can even go pick fights with random people, whether it's dueling people on your side or fighting the opposing faction to the death.

- Immersion. I touched on this a little with the environments but the questing system is really good. There are always quests you can do, and a lot of them have really interesting stories.

- It's Blizzard. Let's face it, Blizz doesn't care about taking themselves too seriously. They are perfectly willing to put in all kinds of crazy jokes throughout the whole game. There are innkeepers named Floyd Pinkus and random citizens like Haris Pilton. Players can walk around with "Jenkins" after their name. There's a belt you can get called "The Tenacious Defender." This kind of humor really adds to the atmosphere of Azeroth.

- Accessibility. This is the big one. While MMOs before it had a high commitment to enter, WoW invited everyone in. The system is simple enough that everyone can enjoy it. There is barely a penalty for death and everything in the game is really inviting. There is never a point in the game where they give you nothing to do, and there is a plethora of content for everyone. Blizzard has also sped up the time it takes to level, so getting to 80 takes about the same amount of time that getting to 60 took back in the day.

- Depth. Easy to learn, difficult to master. WoW can be as simple as "Spam 1 and 2 until the thing dies." Or if you decide that you want to get into the whole theory-crafting, there is a lot of thought and math that goes into gear and talent specializations.

- The whole social aspect. Running dungeons with your friends never really gets old, and if you don't think you will make friends in this game then you are mistaken. I'm in a guild right now where are entire raids consist of a bunch of cool guys talking shit and hanging out. It especially helps if you have real life friends playing with you.

There are a lot of people that talk bad about WoW, but most of those people either had a bad experience, or have never played it. Yeah, some people would call it a second job, but it only becomes a second job if you want it to be. Yes, you may very well lose your life to this game, but believe me, you won't see it like that. You'll be too busy having a good time.

Oddly enough, the same things I used to like about it are the same things I currently dislike, but there is no denying that every other MMORPG that I've seen is simply a WoW clone (Except maybe City of Heroes).
"maybe" City of? Jesus dude those two games are nothing alike!

I was semi-addicted to WoW at a point last year, and sort of used it as a distraction after a bad break-up, but eventually had to give it up due to work and a lousy budget.

Tried to get into it again a couple of weeks ago, but it just bored the hell out of me. I felt like I was just wasting my time.

No, when I feel ready for MMO'ing again, I'll go back to Final Fantasy XI.

I think I have a deja vu :D

Anyway asking if "WoW is good" is like asking if booze is good. Sure you'll likely have some good time with it, but is it worth it? No. Don't start playing it unless you are paralized and have completely nothing other to do.
Wait, you could still read books, so no.
Don't bring the booze into this!
Not the sweet, innocent booze!
;_;

Isn't FFXI like the korean version of WoW that requires a party to do ANYTHING?

Dear World of Warcraft,

Please stop kidnapping my friends and tossing them into a pit of no return.

Love,

A party is "near-required" for most big things in FFXI, yes. But then again, why am I playing an MMO if not for playing with other people?

Plus, they've added a lot of side-activities that can be done solo, and 3-4 of the jobs are capable of leveling at a decent speed on their own. This is partially Square Enix's response to criticism they've received since WoW came into the picture.

Plus, they've made it possible for players of any levels to play together now, through a system that allows the party to get temporarily leveled down to the lowest-leveled player present in the party, and the adjustments are applied to any higher-level equipment they may be wearing as well. Of course they'll all still gain experience towards their real level, as usual.

Huh... I played for like a week, and found that in order to level with any sort of speed (this was back when it came out) I had to find a group.

IMO it's the best MMORPG out there. I don't play anymore, but after WoW no other MMO can satisfy me.
Because it has spoiled you.

My reason to hate WoW - it's like a teacher that tells every kid he's special and awesome and he ignores his faults, so he doesn't get scared to death.

It was fun for a little while, but I am just burned out on the whole MMO genre. Its great fun at first to look around the world and see how your character's skills develop. But eventually (about halfway to max level usually) I just take my finger off the "w" key and say: "wait a minute. WTF is the point of this?"

- I'm not experiencing a story or exploring new and special places like a real RPG.

The only time someone can experience this is if they are a 133t d00d and get to be the first to enter a new area. I will never have that kind of time to devote to the game so I will never enjoy that. (Ok, maybe when I am like 70 years old it would be more fun than watching Matlock but until then I am SOL)

- I am not testing my skill against the skill of other players like any other multiplayer game because proficiency is 80% gear/time spent playing and only 20% strategy and tactics.

The only time strategy and tactics comes into play is when your group of friends is working out how to tackle a new and really hard PvE encounter. That can be fun. But the sheer number of hours I have to spend doing other things to get ready for it and the time needed to coordinate with all those other people makes it more like a job than anything else. My free hours can have a much higher fun density in another type of game.

Once that hits me, I log off and cancel my sub. After 3 MMOs, I don't think I am even going to try a 4th.

Liked the game for about 2 years, now I've run out of content so I stopped playing. Farming stuff over and over again isn't my idea of having a good time. Enjoyed me stay, nothing lasts forever and that includes WoW. Not bitter or resentfull, just done with the game and now it's time to move on.

To people who say "it's a 2nd job you pay for": that's the player's choice to treat the game like that. Plenty of people, including me, don't/didn't. The true 2nd job hardcore players are a minority, but sadly also the one's you hear the most (as in, about the game, on forums). The game never forces you to put craploads of time in it, the game never forces you to schedule everything around the game or farm for hours on end. It's the players who force themselfs to do those things.

Anyway, these kind of threads are getting soooooooo ooooooooold now.
