that's actually my main problem with it. every time i play an mmorpg, i go insane over it and do nothing but play it, constantly. the only reason i'm not right now that i died and then thought up this question.

If you had trouble moderating yourself on lesserly addictive MMOs do NOT get WoW honestly there is no more of an easily addicting game than WoW.

really If you can survive Wow, you can pretty much survive anything but honestly if your going to go nuts over something then I would try something like hellgate london or guild wars so you dont feel like an idiot for paying a monthly charge and since its free you dont have to worry about getting you monies wort so you shouldn't go nuts.

The free trial is pretty limited. It's not because Blizzard wants you to buy their game. It's because we had spammers for gold and leveling sites trouble.

You could go play Wow. It's entirely up to you, but make sure you control that addiction problem.

If Stammer was here, he'd be the first to tell you otherwise.

I vote yes
however;

If you have a significant other or intend to acquire one, if you have a demanding job that you wish to maintain and finaly if you have no other friends who play it, my recomendation changes to a no.

good luck

/former wow addict 8 months clean and worrying about WoTLK

If it's your first MMO: yes.

If you played EQ or the like: probably No, unless you're looking for something different

rather than wow, i`d recommend Warhammer On`line. Pretty much same stuff but with a few improvements.

Pfft not to open old wounds with this argument but Warhammer is mainly if not only PvP now if you like PvP then go for it but if you want more of a balance; albeit with a emphasis on PvE then go with WoW. I also might have got WAR until I learned they cut content to beat the release of WotLK, IMO thats a bit desperate. If they cut content to release earlier they are worried about WotLK, hardly sounds like an improvement.

If you really wanted to subscribe to a new MMO you could do much better than WOW. Try City of Heroes/Villains. If you want fantasy go with Guild Wars. It's much more fun than WOW and has no subscription fees.

Get Warhammer Online, it is being released soon (or earlier today, not sure) and it looks far better.

IMO WoW is past it's prime and the expansion will probably harm it rather than help it, also it requires quite a lot of time especially in the higher levels.

If you are looking to get an MMO I would say Warhammer Online as it is the same basic concept as WoW although more focused on PvP/RvR and it's newer, it looks like it's gonna be better than WoW as well.

I can't help but feel that buying WoW now would be buying into a game when it is on it's downwards trend, I'm not saying it'll rapidly die, and I may well be proved wrong when the expansion pack comes out and it reaches a new high of players, but it just feels to me that it will slowly lose players from about now.

get a friend to recruit you and you can:

summon eachother every hour from anywhere in the game
get triple experience when grouping together until level 60
grant his lower level characters 1 free level for every 2 levels you gain, giving him more reason to want to group with you
To sweeten the deal, your friend gets a zhevra mount, a free month of gameplay AND a feat of strength once 3.0 rolls around.

Seriously.

It's worth doing.

That won't work at all. A vast majority of video game retailers won't return PC games if they're opened. If he buys it, it will have to stay in the original packaging.

Just try the 10-day trial and if you still aren't bored with it, go buy the game. Gamestop has a "battle chest" with the original game and Burning Crusade for $29.99. The tricky part is the online play, for a two-month subscription also costs $29.99.
