Ryan Reynolds.

Seriously can't stand that douche-bag - I thought he showed some promise in Blade2(?), but then in everything I've seen him in since, he's made me cringe. In some cases (Green Lantern), he made me contemplate self harm to get out of watching the movie, in fact he made Green Lantern gay.

Most actors redeem themselves with at least 1 movie, like Tom Cruise in Tropic Thunder, Matt Damon in Good Will and Bourne - I'm still waiting on Reynolds decent movie. Hell, I'd even say that Seth Rogan did a better job at being a superhero, and that's saying something.

I also hate Ben Affleck, Hugh Grant, Mark Wahlburg and Will Smith.

And Simon Pegg in all the American films he's made, so far removed from Spaced, so far up his own ass as someone already said. Spaced was my favorite TV series, Shaun of the dead was brilliant, and Hot Fuzz was really decent, but recently, bleh!.
I agree with you on the Ryan Reynolds thing, he almost redeemed himself in the Wolverine film, I thought for a moment they might actually have an awesome Deadpool..... they ruined it, oh how they ruined it.

I take issue with the other actors though, especially since you say most actors redeem themselves with at least 1 good film, for Affleck, it's Dogma (possibly Good Will Hunting too, but I thought it was boring), Hugh Grant did The Pirates! (awesome Aardman animated film), Wahlburg did Ted & Boogie Nights aaand Will Smith gets a pass cuz I actually enjoyed Fresh Prince when I was little.

Bit of a cliche, but Kristen Stewart, because she has all the acting talent of a wooden plank.

And seriously, do some of you people seriously not know how to judge acting quality, or do you just have some kind of personal hatred for some actors? I mean, Will Smith? Seriously? He's a terrific actor.

How about none of those as your list is terrible.

Kristen Stewart.

She has a single expression and a monotone voice.

Keanu Reeves may be similar, but he manages to pull of the bad ass warrior monk very well, whereas Stewart just looks constipated.

Mark Hamil? REALLY? Are you fucking with me? Because if not, you have clearly never played either of the Arkham games or watched the Batman animated show.

It's strange. I can understand why Adam Sandler can inspire such wrath, but find it hard hate him personally. Most probably because the only one of his films that I've ever watched was 'Airheads'. Where in that he fitted the role beautifully.
You should consider yourself lucky, sir. Even when I should say "you need to watch more of his movies to understand the hate he inspires", that is not an activity I would recommend to anyone with a better use of his time, like watching paint dry.

I want to subscribe to the Worthington hate. Specially because at some point, he was in everything... And performed in nothing.

The Beef. There are some fantastic contenders up there running against him - Lautner, Sandler, Jack Black - but can they compare with the unholy Dull Surprise of Shia LeBeouf? I think not.

As for actress, that's easily Kristen Stewart. No contest there, I think.

You know what I've realized lately? That an actor is often only as good as the part. Take Tom Cruise. He is almost always cast as "Tom Cruise in: Another Tom Cruise Movie!!#!$1" He hardly has to act in these roles. But give him an odd character like the guy he played in Tropic Thunder, can't remember the name, and he knocks it out of the park.

Many actors are seen as great based entirely on the parts they play. For example, Daniel Day-Lewis is one of our most respected living actors for the parts he played in films like "The Crucible," "Gangs of New York," "There Will Be Blood," and most recently "Lincoln." He certainly deserves the reputation as his performances are almost always stellar, but I wonder what would happen if he ever took a smaller part in a more poorly-written movie. You see, Day-Lewis has made his career so impressive by carefully picking the best, most challenging parts and doing a movie every 2 or 3 years. He keeps himself sterilized and safe behind good screenwriting.

Samuel L. Jackson rarely gets called a "good" actor. A lot of people like him, and he has a reputation as a badass dude, but how many people even know he was nominated for a Best Actor Oscar for "Pulp Fiction?" He is a damn good actor with much more range than he gets credit for, but his more infamous roles such as "Snakes on a Plane" and "Afro Samurai" are where he gets the reputation of a less serious and therefore less talented actor.

I think a lot of supposedly "bad" actors and actresses have the potential to really surprise you, they just need to be given the right part. Now, obviously some actors are still better than others. Keanu is pretty terrible in almost everything; he worked well in The Matrix because he is a man who has lived an empty life and is being shown all that he has never known. His lack of emotion is appropriate as his role is more of a symbol than a man. But when he was called upon to have more emotional range in the sequels he sort of fell flat.

So, I kinda think that it's impossible to say who is the worst mainstream actor. If they are mainstream then they were at least good enough to convince a casting director.

On the other hand, Taylor Lautner is a useless sack of meat, and I'm not sure Sam Worthington knows what acting actually is...

I've always thought Kevin Costner was a pretty shoddy actor.
That being said, I don't know if he's necessarily a "mainstream actor" any-more, seeing as he hasn't been getting much work lately.

I'm going to assume OP also means Actresses in this list

Katherine Hiegl
Gerard Butler
Adam Sandler (With the sole exception of his role in "Funny People")
Sandra Bullock (She's horrid)
Julia Roberts
Brenden Fraser
The Rock

Hate all of those people. With a passion.

Edit: And John Cusack. Didn't even like him in Being John Malkovich. And I love that movie.

I guess maybe Ben Stiller. The only film I enjoyed with him in was Tropic Thunder, but he was carried by Robert Downey Jr. Jack Black and Tom Cruise.

Watch "The Room". Seriously. It's the worst movie ever made. It's a staggering waste of celluloid, and that alone should give it a space in the Criterion Collection.
Did you go into "The Room" expecting it not to be a steaming pile? It works best when you watch it with others who know it so you can openly take the piss out of it. Who can forget the classic lines such as "You're tearing me apart Lisa" or "Hi doggy" and "I like to watch you" as the 20 year old child says to his parents as they are about to have sex.
Oh, no. I knew what I was going into. What I meant was that it's bad. It's hilariously entertaining, yes - but it's awful. It's what gives the movie its peculiar charm. You ever heard the term "jolie laide" being used to refer to a person who's got odd facial features but still manages to make them work? "The Room" has all the features of a navel-gazing drama, but it turns into an awesome accidental comedy. It's a "Jolie Laide" movie.

All those lines you've quoted are pretty epic. What makes Denny even worse is the fact that he isn't Johnny and Lisa's kid. He's a neighbour, basically a college kid who happens to live nearby and that Johnny so graciously props up financially.

Either Weisseau is a massive troll, or he has absolutely no idea of how to function in society. The way the mother drops the fact that she's got breast cancer and Lisa's total lack of reaction? Wow. It's legendary.
Ah ok that's fair enough and I'm fairly sure he has no idea as he tried to pass it as a drama then when it became a cult comedy he tried to call it a black comedy or something like that.

I never liked Leonardo DiCaprio, and I honestly can't say why. I never saw Titanic, the Romeo and Juliet thing was doomed to begin with, and he was actually pretty damn good in Inception, Gangs of New York, and I hear Django Unchained. I really don't know why I hate him so much. I think it has to do with The Man in the Iron Mask, but the last time I saw that was probably like 6 years ago.

Nicolas Cage is only good at acting like himself, though he's a bit too obvious of a choice for this.
I'd have to say Adam Sandler.

That's exactly what happened. He's picked up on his status as an absolutely shitty director and figured he might as well embrace it. He directed a horror short in recent years. "The House that Drips Blood on Alex" is pretty much Wiseau owning up to the fact that he doesn't have a shred of directorial talent and no worth whatsoever as an actor - and using those for maximum effect.

Watching it, you can tell it's more or less self-conscious, compared to "The Room". The problem is his being self-conscious has robbed his later projects of some of the weird arrogance and self-infatuation you found in "The Room". He's always the principal actor, sure, but "House" is Wiseau playing the victim in a horror short that doesn't make a lick of sense and that knows it.

It's fun, just less of a thigh-slapper than his one serious offering.

I want to say Tom Cruise. Maybe it's just because I'm too young to have seen his older stuff first, but I just can't take him seriously.
I wouldn't say he has range, but he plays his role well.
There are too many worse actors that belong here before him.

Ok thanks I'll take a look at that then and see if he has any more things like it.

I don't think I've ever found an actor/actress that has no redeeming acting ability. I can understand the hatred for some of them, especially later films of Adam Sandler or Will Smith, but I typically can find at least one film that displays real talent.

Now admittedly, I have not seen any Kristen Stewart movies or really anything with any Twilight actors, except for Pattinson in the fourth Harry Potter film, so I cannot judge them.

I do think that sometimes it is not the actor or their lack of ability as it is the director and what they make the actors say and do. I'm mostly looking at the Star Wars prequels with this as there was some very wooden dialogue from some very talented actors in them, but there are other examples out there as well.

First person who came to mind was Tom Cruise but then I remembered liking Mission Impossible and Tropic Thunder so I let him off.

I chose Orlando Bloom anyway because I always feel he's too poetic and tragic in LOTR and Pirates, yeah I know its his character but if I see him in a film I always get a sense of doom and gloom plus I felt there should have been a different actor for Will Turner.

Ashton Kutcher hasn't been mentioned yet? Really? Figured more people would loathe ever thing he's in and laugh whenever he actually attempts to act.

Also, to parrot the one million other people, Adam Sandler. Though that might not be fair considering I've only seen one movie of his in it's entirety.

Katherine Heigl is pretty shit too.

Yeah, a lot of the names bandied about are essentially character actors. Which is a specific sort of actor who plays one character very well (and naturally, if they get cast as anything else, looks like an idiot).

I didn't mind Shia in his non-transformers stuff (Granted, he still wasn't impressive), I think he has a lot of burden in those films because everytime Shia's on screen is time they could've spent showing actual Transformers.

Costner always seems like he's trying to play a poor mans Sean Connery.

Cera plays his shy dork role well enough, the problem with him is his movies all tried ot make that character a protagonist, which they really don't work as.
