FF8 had some of the most unlikeable characters in video game history. Plus, it was too easy

We've all seen the debates for the best Final Fantasy story, but what about the worst? (FFXI is excluded, since it's the only numbered, non-single-player FF to date).

I'd personally go with IV. Cecil was the only semi-interesting character and the plot twist involving Golbez was incredibly predictable.

What about you?
I wonder why you excluded Final Fantasy I and II from your poll? Both have a pretty good plot...

VIII's was good (So what, I said it, do something!)
I knew it was going to be a Love Story, and I didn't get let down.

I have to say X, I didn't like that story too much.
8's was good if you speak crazy. I mean, FF stories have typically been a little out there, but 8 wandered into bat-shit-crazy land. Plus, for all the end bosses that came from right field, it was by far the most dropped in.

Personally that's why i really likes FF8, because it was the most innovative and experimental, until FFXII (i like thet they tried to change it but it didin't work). the whole point with 8 was to cut out the whole lvl up to make your char stranger formula which has been used by.. let me think.. every rpg ever. The point was to make your characters stronger through junctions, through equipping magic and GF on chars to max their stats and make them powerful. If you know how to work the system you can have over 3000 hp from the get go and just waltz through about half the game without breaking a sweat. But that was the beauty of the system, if you really took time to learn it and master the junction's, also unlocking all the GF to be able to max out all the stats, you could make your character really powerful without the hassle of having to have to grind for levels, all you have to do is spend come time to draw magic from enemies. I'm not saying its perfect, but it was nice to see something different...
It would've been nice if they would've told me that, seeing as how every previous FF game required leveling up to defeat enemies, and if you go back and fight the first enemies you encountered they can't cast Ultima. However this thread actually made me want to go back and play through FF8 and 9, to see if my opinion changed. The last time I played them I was 14 or so, so I might be able to appreciate their changes to the series. Keep in mind though I played FF2/4 (damn semantics) when I was 7 so the original formula remains a huge part of my gaming preferences. I can call my brother a spoony bard and he'll bust out laughing. FF3/6 is still one of my favorite games as well, so hopefully after another play through I can enjoy the newer Final Fantasy games.

They all have fairly good stories for the most part I mean they are better than a lot of the stories I've seen in other games for me I'd say XII or X.

XII because I didn't like the main character as much as the other ones but that said I found Balthier funny but it was still alright but I kinda lost interest half way through it.

X because I didn't like the whole "Dream Of The Faith" thing but it did work in well it just didn't appeal to me and seemed just silly but then again we're not playing Final Fantasy for realistic storylines besides the tangently related themes to real life.

XII was such a disappointment it made me forgive alot of X's problems. VI, VII and IX were the best to be honest.

12. Seriously, who really cared about the "main character" and when they could swapped him out for the real main character, who had breasts.

Borrowed X-2 from a friend, but it would lock up in the intro cut scene... so... yeah...
You are so lucky.
Was it really that bad? I heard it was from people, but people also said that Jericho and Alone in the Dark were horrible, but I loved both of those... I was about to buy X-2, but I didn't want to buy it and have it not work again...

I don't like the story of XII. It's so predictable...and I hate the fact, that Balthier should have been the main character of the game and story at first. Would have been so cool, but they needed "a sweet guy", Vaan, to please the fans. *grml*

but what if they reach 30?
The better question would be: When will they reach 30?
Oh c'mon, You all know it's going to happen.
I've noticed a serious trend with the Final Fantasy franchise over the last few years: they've started announcing the next installment before the one currently in development even comes out (as seen with Final Fantasy XIV being announced before XIII has been released).

Soon enough, they'll overlap each other, and Final Fantasy XIX and XX will be announced and released at the exact same moments. After that, Final Fantasy XXII will be announced before XXI, and then it's all downhill from there. By the time Final Fantasy XXX is released, they'll have only announced XXVII.

At around the time Final Fantasy XL is announced and Final Fantasy IL is released, Square-Enix will aggressively buy-out all the rest of the game developers in the industry and pit them all together to work on Final Fantasy L, which will have equal parts first-person shooter, turn-based role-playing, real-time Western role-playing, third-person exploration, point-and-click adventuring, real-time strategy planning and MMO questing elements, all combined into a single game. Needless to say, the game will go through many iterations over the years, experiencing many delays in development and production, letting it being overshadowed by the announcement and release of many other Final Fantasies, such as the MMO juggernaught, Final Fantasy LXIV: World of Final Fantasy; the ultimate first-person shooter experience, Final Fantasy LXIX: Call of Halo: Gears of Final Fantasy War; and the best life simulation game ever, Final Fantasy LXXII: The Sims 7. Soon, all hype about Final Fantasy L is lost in the swarm of media surrounding the dozens of other titles that Square-Enix releases and announces each year.

Twelve years later, after Final Fantasy CCL has been released, the studio developing Final Fantasy L closes, and the game is finally cancelled, all to much apathy. Soon after, at the same press address where they announce Final Fantasy D, Square-Enix announces that it is closing its doors, having expended too much of its resources for prospective future projects to properly fund their current projects, which leaves the video game industry in ruins.

Beware, people. The end is nigh. Boycott Final Fantasy, before it's too late!

Put it this way. Go to a video store and rent the Hentai with the least nudity in it, then watch it on mute with the Final Fantasy X soundtrack playing, cut intermittently with audio of the laughing scene. That will be less annoying than playing X-2.

FF8 was what got me into gaming. Something about it being modern drew me in more than the others. I have recently played FF12 and I just can't get into it the same way. I don't like the whole 700 A.D. time period with government conspiracies or whatever (I never got far into the game because my controller's square button wouldn't work lol).
