It depends on the case...

Non-hardware intensive games could come out on all consoles, so they might as well.

Games that are designed to take advantage of superior hardware specs, or specific programming of a certain console, will never work on anything else.

(generic "bad game based after this movie to make money" will be available on all consoles, God of War 3 won't)

having no exclusives would defeat the purpose of having different systems.

my escapist friends having read your posts has made me think a bit ,the main reason i put this idea up was due to dlc and xbox paying for exclusive dlc ie fallout 3 even through it sucks and gta4 dlc it probably would never work anyway but sony dropped the ball and it's sad really the xbox made sure the point card to buy dlc was ready close to console release day but sony and their card was late ,and i can't get one where i live i guess sony doesn't want my money anymore , i think it's time to switch to xbox as my main gaming console and use the ps3 as a blue ray player and those ps3 exclusives toodlez duckout

No it wouldn't work, and there is no incentive towards competitive competition for the big companies to lure games development to their platform.

Developers benefit from making their title exclusive to one platform over another.

it wouldn't really be possible. there is legally no way there can be market domination, so to have one company with one console and no competitors would make no sense. plsu there would be no drive to make things better, and everything would likely get very stale.

Why would having a PS360 be a bad thing? This whole well the 2 consoles breed competition is ridiculous. The majority of games hit both consoles anyways so there goes the incentive to make better games then the next dev according to the theory. Devs wouldn't need to worry about thier games selling and losing money if they do go exclusive since the entire market doesn't own both. And if it were to happen my god they might have to compete with each other, not let the consoles win the war and they just follow along. The industry already has become stale. Has been for years. Every once in a while we get something new and innovative but they are few and far between. Maybe having 1 console would mean they don't have to make 2 games but can then focus on the 1 game and make it better.

No, what would be the point of different consoles then? Do you think Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo would merge to make the world better and just build the same consoles, sharing the revenue evenly?

1 word RTS, no console has mastered it, hence consoles will always have a competitor, the desktop computer. Also i like how Nintendo still has its unique party console style. Sure it may not be enough sometimes but at least it has that consistency, X-box and PS could so easily adapt if they were willing to invest in new genres and try new things. They unfortunately fail to grasp that although they have amazing gfx and memory, many of their games in turn suffer from being unimaginative and with a short lifespan, compared to Nintendo or PC which have still got the art of making addictive whimsical games.
