I know that Warrock certainly would be. Sure learning to be a sniper is fun and all the litte mechanics, like bullet drop, are cool. But, waiting to respawn for the eleventy billionth time, just to be headshotted agian from some guy who spent hundreds of hours of the prime of his life finding teh perfect sniping position which you can;t find casue your moniter doesn't have high defnition and becasue you can't stand still ofr one nano second, is really annoying. In a way, snipers make some games less accesable to newer players and, while fragging noobs is fun, getting fragged time after time by the aformentioned sniper, is butt numbingly awful.

They shouldn't really, but running out to a little wall of laser dots on TF2 can make it a little boring.
Then again, that's usually on 2Fort.
I suppose my opinion on snipers varies from game to game and map to map.

EDIT:
After looking at some other points, I'm reminded that snipers that do nothing but snipe 24/7 can make the game a lot more annoying.
I suppose I should just get better at games, but whatever.

Without sniper rifles you make "realistic" games less realistic, they create a better choice of weapons and provide some difficult challenges in single player and multiplayer. I'd rather be stuck in a sniping fight with someone than being up in their face all the time with a submachine gun.

A better option would be to limit who gets to be snipers. I don't think an entire team should be allowed to snipe. If it was limited to one or two people sniping I would definitely have more fun.

No, everyone should be able to play how they want.

Hollock trivia! I played as a sniper for the first time since call of duty 3 and shot someone point blank in the head, and the guy spun around and pistol fucked me.

No. Without snipers to pick them off everyone would just run around like lemmings on speed. I hate how most online FPS games are turned into reflex tests of who can shoot first by the players.

It seems like a kind of valid reflex test though. If i see you and you see me at the same time, who ever gets the first shots (providing they hit), should win that little skirmish (also providing the hand of god *lag* doesn't say one person fired while the other didn't).
True, however thats not how I like to play. In a straight reflex test, more often than not I will loose to the guy who plays more often and has spent years training his reflexes. I prefur to stay unseen and strike from a hidden location without the other player ever seeing me.
True enough. I've been playing games since i was 2, if anything i'm starting to notice a slight decline in my reflexes. End of the day though, you have to play to your strengths, I by definition would be considered a god awful sniper, which is why i use silenced weapons and try to sneak behind the enemy. Lol on days when i'm affected by the cosmic radiation of aligned planets, i'm decent at best for sniping. Like i said do what your good at... Still can't stand the Marathon-lightweight-commando combo though.

I don't mind snipers in Battlefield type games with 20 or 30 members on a team, but in MW2 some levels you get half of each team trying to snipe and it just becomes so boring, because either you run around trying to find snipers and get your head blow off or you be a sniper and hope you get lucky enough to find that 1 guy who isn't sniping, and get the first shot off.

No. Stop being a whiney little ***** about losing and just play the game.

I seriously hate people who class certain tactics and classes as "noobish" in games. These people don't deserve to even touch a controller or keyboard/mouse.

If it were up to you people, every god damn thing that ever killed you in an online game would be banned, then we'd be running around aimlessly.

Grow up. Shut the fuck up.
What you say is kind of true, but when the entire community, even the people using said tactic refer to it as a NOOBish thing, you have to think something may be a little wrong. The NOOBTUBE for example, lol if the game developer throws out a title with that name on it... well it is what it is.

Yes. Most good maps turn into annoying camping because of snipers. (Example: wasteland in Mw2)

Hmmm, I don't play MW2 so I wouldn't know about that. I am considering getting it once it's below £10 on PC and getting the nice Winhester and Ghillie suit and hiding in bushes.

Removing snipers would make it a bit more unrealistic...
except the ranges where a sniper is realistically effective are essentially absent for FPS's except for the HC stuff, BF2 mods like project reality.
a normal rifle, with irons, can be just as accurate as a sniper up to 400m.
most FPS maps aren't that big.
really have no place, Designated Marksman's Rifles can make sense, though, in a COD-type FPS.
also, look up stats on infantry vs. snipers
notice there aren't 4 snipers for 12 infantry.

i dont think that they should be eliminated completely but a special game type that bans sniping could be a good idea. it would be a little more fun for those us that like to run and gun.

I don't know, but I think if it wasn't for those damn pinning-1-shot-mah-commander rifles my games of 40k would involve much more steamrolling and much less tactics.

In video games... eh. They're a necessary evil to keep everyone from running and gunning like little idiots.

I think I'm pretty good at sniping but not having played against people much it's hard to tell; either way it's just fun, and it can give a different type of satisfaction than using a machine gun or shotgun. There's the old camping issue but that can happen with close range weapons (not to mention medium and intermediate range)and grenades too, and proper level design and proper placement and use of spawn points (which I guess is also level design) can fix that right up.
