Humans

To quote dawn of the dead, "because they still believe there's respect in dying".

Zombies could probably be rationalised away as being more like hunting than killing other sapients.
Killing another human, even in self defence, would ultimately leave me with flashes of empathy as to the circumstances that person died in.

So yeah, zombies.
There would also be an rationalisation if anyone else thought otherwise. Rationalising an enemy/foe works both ways as if you aren't with us, you're with them.

Well The only way killing is zombie would be in any way MORE traumatic would be if it were the zombie of a person you loved. In any event it's pretty psychologically scarring to have to fight any kind of horde, but personally I'd go for zombies because they die easier.

In similar numbers, fighting zombies would be incredibly easy in comparison...

however, one or two human beings out for your blood has nothing on 90+% of all human beings having been turned into mindless person-eating machines.

For both points... physically as well as psychologically. The difficulty curve on each is much the same, all things being related.

At least in the short term, I imagine it would be easier, but only slightly.

There is a bit of terror involved in fighting a zombie, however there is no guilt in killing one so there is almost no impulse to hold back.

However, anyone in a long term combat situation will break eventually.

Yea, I think I'd probably shit my pants if I we're fighting zombies. I know he idea of a zombie apocalypse looks cool but...

If you saw some decaying bloody person running towards you screaming bloody murder, you can't tell me that won't make you shit your pants.

A person can be reasoned with, or you can at least make him lose his will to fight. But a zombie will NEVER STOP, and look down right terrifying while doing it.

Since zombies aren't real it's far easier psychologically to tell oneself that killing them would be easier than killing another person.

Personally I think it would be positively psychologically satisfying to kill a zombie, if they existed. The zombie is essentially an autonamaton, a self-contained unit whose only function is to feed on living flesh, thus I would consider the elimination of that threat as a prime motivating factor in making it psychologically acceptable.

I'm not perverse enough to believe that their would be any gratification in killing a zombie, it would still be a gruesome task, but when it comes down to it I find it much easier to visualize myself "killing" something that is already dead than to extinguish the life of someone already alive.

Unless you're an assassin, skillful at tracking or killing etc in real life I say it's easier to fight zombies
