Probably, but I have nothing better to do than sit here and point out things and such. I really have nothing that requires my attention at work lol.

Did something like this happen to you recently? Well anyway, my answer is no. By default I wouldn't have a radio on in my work environment unless I had earphones attached to it. If I'm forgetful enough to leave it blaring, then by all means one of my co-workers is allowed to turn it down or off. Or even to a different station, although when I get back since it's mine I would just turn it right back to my own station. I'm easy-going like that.

I have a co-worker that leaves her radio on...well it is on right now, I can hear it. she has been gone for about 2 hours. I have turned it down in the past and she flips shit when I turn it down because she doesn't like people touching stuff on her desk. I understand, but I have right not to listen to her music that no one else is listening too.

Well she has absolutely no right to be upset, let alone "flip a shit." She may own the radio, (or maybe not, who knows) but she does not own the desk, does not own the building, and most certainly does not own the air particles that she is disturbing which distract co-workers and negatively affect productivity. If this is a repeat offence, she should be lucky that nobody has tipped off whoever it is that's in charge to the fact that she's disturbing the work environment.

If she cares enough about her radio to not want people to ever touch it, she should care enough about it to learn to turn it off when she leaves so nobody that doesn't want to hear her crap has to hear her crap. On top of shortening the life of the device, she is also wasting either her own batteries, or electricity that she does not own, and being a general *****.

Not for nothing, but it is hard to ask someone to turn off a radio or whatever if they have left before noticing that they were gone. For clarification purposes, I'm in a cubical with walls I can see over if I stand. So I can't see anyone coming or going.

This is creepy and it also boils my blood a bit because it reminds me of an old roommate who really would leave his TV on after he left for hours at a time. I'd be in the room trying to work and didn't want to hear fucking Kim Kardashian bang on about her cellulite (he was obsessed with E! in case you were wondering) so I'd turn it off. He'd come back and yell at me for doing so. This and other things got me so fed up with him we ended up having multiple fights, verbal and physical and culminated in him moving out (victory!)

when i'm there i'd appreciate them asking me rather than just doing it
but in your scenario i wasn't there for a reasonably substantial amount of time anyway

It wouldn't bother me at all if they asked me to turn down the music. However it's my stuff and messing with it without my permission would bother me a bit. It shows a total lack of respect for my person and my things.

Still like I said, if they asked, no problem. They could even ask to change it to station we can all enjoy, or to use it when I am not around. Wouldn't bother me at all.

The question is if you aren't around and they turned it off. They can't very well ask permission if you aren't there.

Not to mention the fact that in a workspace there are probably going to be some people with differing music tastes. Having the radio on in the first place would be kinda inconsiderate, when everyone seems to have an iPod or MP3 or whatever that would do instead.
It isn't really much like someone walking into your house at all either. Its a public space. Not only that, people are trying to concentrate. They're well within their rights to sort things out for themselves if you aren't there.
Think how annoying/distracting it would be if someone left a TV on or some music that you don't like while you're all working. They leave, so you turn it off, but then they come back and get all pissy at you. They'd quickly be the most unpopular person in the room.

OT: No. For starters I'd listen to my iPod instead out of respect for the fact that most people don't like my music so much. It isn't exactly conducive to concentrating either. Read: lamb of god and meshuggah.

That is understandable but you would let it ruin your day.

No, the point isn't when you turned it on. It is that you left it on for whatever reason when you left and someone turned it off while you were unreachable.
