Let me set the scene for you. Deciding that they want to cash in on Marvel and Hasbro's success Nintendo announces that a number of it's IPs will be made into movies. One of these movies is The Legend of Zelda. Of course at one point or another every Zelda fan has imagined what a movie based on the franchise would look like, and I think it's safe to say we would all be expecting a Lord of the Rings style epic.

But then we get the announcement! The Legend of Zelda movie will be based on the cartoon that ran in the 80s with some updates like Spryte being renamed Navi and modern characters and locations added.

How would you react to this? Disdain? Excitment? Suicide? More importantly would you accept it?

Personaly, if handled correctly, I think it could work, the show was actually pretty decent, and the relationship between Link and Zelda is a lot more interesting than any of the games potrayal of them. Plus that's another thing, sure Tetra was pretty cool and actually helped throughout the game (teaching songs doesn't count Shiek), but the Zelda that appeared in the cartoon is still, IMO, the best potrayal of the character.

EDIT:
NEW QUESTION!

What if Samuel L. Jackson (playing a black Captain Falcon) showed up after the credits and said.

"Excuuuuse me princess... Ha ha ha I like that"

Then Link is like "Excuuuuuuse me, but who in Hyrule are you?"

And Captain Falcon's like "My name is Captain Falcon" *Dramatic pause* "I'm here to talk to you about the Smash Bros. initiative."

well excuuuuuuuuuse~ me Rossco but I think something like that would be well "criticized" by the newer fans. Although people might enjoy it if you make it purposely campy.

INB4 'Well excuuuse me! Prin...' oh goddammit!

To answer your question, no I don't want that. The cartoon was only a slight step up from those godawful CD-i games.

No. Dear god no. That's just wrong. Your idea is bad and you should feel bad. Just uttering such a thing makes babies cry and doves fall from the sky dead.

Oh yes I would LOVE THIS. I'm probably one of the only Zelda fans who thinks the show is awesome. Awesomely terrible, but awesome nonetheless.

Well excuuuuuuuuuuuuuuse me every one who said no. I just though it could of made for a fun family movie which, lets be honest with the exception of Metroid (maybe), is what Nintendo would be aiming for if they started letting their IPs get the Hollywood treatment.

You really need to add another poll option worded something like this:

NO! FUCK NO! FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THINGS DEAR, NO NO NO!!

Link in that series is WAY too smarmy. I don't care about anything else, that alone was atrocious!

Wait, is this movie live action or animated? If it's animated, they could get Bruce Campbell to voice Link... That catchphrase seems like it could sound damned heroic coming out of his mouth. Come to think of it, Army of Darkness could be a Zelda movie... I'd pay to see Link yell "This is my boomstick!"

Hey, the 80's cartoon was good for what it was: an 80's cartoon. However, due to restrictions back then, it would not work as a movie. I would watch it though, just because.

I used to watch the cartoon its funny how they took a character who never spoke a word in the game, and turned him into a complete tool

As for a movie though? I dunno, they've never made a successful crossover that I've ever seen I'd probly watch it but I wouldn't want it, like sleeping with a fat chick.
