I got Battlefield bad company 2 just for the multiplayer, same with Modern warfare 2.

I would buy all the blizzard games (Diablo, warcraft, starcraft) just for the multiplayer, the single players are OK but don't last long.

Also, TF2.

I pretty much solely bought Bad Company 2 for the multiplayer because a number of my friends play it online and I needed a new game to play.
I was pleasantly surprised by the campaign.

So Escapists, would you buy a game only for the multiplayer (not counting MMORPGS). I mean games like MAG. For me there must be a decent campaign for me to buy it, no campaign, no purchase. Also are there any games you've bought and played only multi, not the campaign?
Most campaigns these days are just generic filler, so yeah I would.

Not really, I got Battlefield: BC 2 because of both the single and multiplayer, I don't know if I would get a game without single player though.

Absolutely not. Not that multiplayer can't be fun, but A) its just not my thing, B) I've had far too many experiences with the Xbox Live asshole crowd, and C) I don't have enough friends to play local multiplayer.

So not that I won't play the multiplayer portion of a good game, but its gotta have a good single-player portion to get me interested. L4D? No chance.

I got started on Bad Company 2's campaign. I played the online multiplayer. I have had it for 3 months, haven't progressed the story since.

I've bought multiplayer only games, but they had bots. The only online only game I have was TF2, which I seriously regret getting.

I'm more interested in multiplayer. It depends on the genre though, I guess. Single player puzzle games are good (well, if it's a good game anyway). Generally for me though, the multiplayer is where a game lives and dies. Some people like to go through a game as they would a book, for the story, but that ain't my style.

Maybe it's a competitive thing, although I've got no interest in actually beating people. I like to have to either outdo an opponent or solve a problem that's been presented. Proving I can beat the AI at shooting, resource-collecting or whatever is pretty hollow to me.

I don't really do multiplayer too much anymore. I got really sick of people on xbl. I only go online if my friends do as well so we can suffer together :/

Multiplayer is overrated. It should be an added bonus and nothing more. I mean look at Uncharted 2, it delivers on both ends of the spectrum; thrilling single-player and decent multiplayer. It just sickens me when people laud multiplayer so much. EX: People were so quick to attack RE5's single player, but when it comes to MW2's unforgivably short single player campaign, they pretend it doesn't exist.
Mleh, I probably should have read this before posting. But, why should multiplayer be 'an added bonus and nothing more'? As games go, multiplayer is pretty much the standard. It's only video games that make single player significant at all.

I guess that's a critical difference though; 'video games' is too broad a term. Single player and multiplayer games are consumed in completely different ways; it would make more sense not to consider them the same medium at all.
