Point and click escape games are the best. As are the scary type ones. Well..."scary"

I like some of them. Right now I'm playing Fate/Stay Night (just so I can explore different actions and events not shown in the anime), I also enjoy Sam and Max games, Neverhood (because it also looks cool).

Also, Simon the Sorcerer.

yeah of course. I dont believe in the ideology of genre superiority. I believe any game regardless of genre can be great.

The White Chamber ftw.

I wouldn't BUY a text based adventure game, but I would certainely play one if it was VERY well written and open. (I am meaning AT LEAST 10 options a step)

I'm going to say Yes to buying both as I have never played a point and click or text based game in my life.

If they made more things like Monkey Island or Yahtzee's Chzo Mythos games I'd be happy to buy them.
To anyone who has bought "Time Gentleman Please!" Is this game good and is it worth the £2 on Steam?

I HATE text games, its the entire reason why I never like handhelds, because all it has are games with endless wall o' text syndrome.

Point and Click is alright with me, but since im mostly a racer or shooter fan, I'm not big on them.

Hmmm... I have to say that I'm a little surprised thus far by the results. I was not expecting point and clicks to so outweigh text games, though this might be due to the idea that gamers these days hold a high regard for visual interaction.

Yes.

More specifically, I'd PAY for a cart of, say, half a dozen complete Lone Wolf DS [http://www.projectaon.org/staff/frederic/index.php] conversions. The 2 I have are sheer genius but with only 2 I've long since completed their adventures (of course, I could always troll eBay for the books.)

As for point-n-click adventures, I loved them in the past (especially games like Sam & Max and the Space Quest series...oh, and Fate of Atlantis!) I'd love them today, too, if they weren't involved with Steam. I don't want Steam, I just want the games.

Never tried a text-based game, so it's unlikely I'd pay for one. It would probably take a glowing review from one of the people I trust.

Point-and-click, sure. I just haven't been playing them lately.

I buy adventure games quite often. Recently bought Outcry. Currently waiting for Whispered World and Still Life 2 to be released.

So to answer your question, there are the odd weirdos that still buy adventures even when most of them aren't even that good. I've never been into the text ones though.

within the last several years some well-received point and clickers came out. One had a dracula story.

However, I wouldn't pay for a text based game.

A couple of questions for the people here who do play text adventure games.

How often do you know what you need to do, but struggle to type it out exactly the way the game wants you to?

What do you find particularly compelling in these games?

Would a highly detailed, wordy point-and-click game have the same appeal?

I'd consider a text-based game if we went through a nuclear apocalypse and the only things available were DOS-based cannibalized computers.

However, that not being the case at present, I'd rather stick to all that 3D-nonsense we've been developing for the last 20 years.

Text games are just too slow and boring for me. Point and Click is fun if done right and the story is good.

Plain and simple, I don't want a point and click game that comes down to rubbing every object against each other to find out the banana, jump rope, knife, and sword made a fishing pole. That may sound ridiculous, but I've seen games do worse solutions.
