With all this talk about Skyrim (hopefully getting my copy in less than 24 hours) I've been thinking about the history of the series. As a console player the first Elder Scrolls game I've been able to experience is Morrowind, and I've always felt I'm missing out on some of the older games. Now I know that power isn't really a problem in getting the older games to work on my computer since they are so ancient, but there's still the issue of actually finding the games and getting emulators to work etc. In particular I've always been kind of interested in Redguard, as I've heard it's quite an unusual game for the series. So I had the idea of putting all the old games together in an HD collection of some sort, like a lot of other series seem to be doing recently. If they did that I would probably buy it. What about you guys?

EDIT: Just to clarify, the games are talking about are the ones never released on consoles before. Only games before Morrowind.

Well, first I need to buy the Oblivion 5th Anniversary edition thingy.
And then, well...Maybe new textures for Morrowind but to pay big money for that?
I don't know.

Nah, Played the majority of them and they was all the same. Just improving graphics and adding a few extras don't make a brand new game. Bethesda should work on expanding the rpg genre. They helped the shooter market more giving another free roam fps fallout to the rare few. I expect more from a company.

Ow hell yes I will but only if they change the textures and dialog and leave the core gameplay untouched.
hmmm it seems I am discribing a mod, ah well.

I'm curious: are the games direct sequels of each other or mostly unrelated iterations (i.e. Final Fantasy). Just curious if I play Skyrim if I will be confused because I've never played an Elder Scrolls game before.

The games are all independent, storywise. They all share common lore though.

They aren't direct sequels, but they do relate kinda, they take place in the same world anyway. and have the same mythos.

Not like Final Fantasy where they're kinda not related story wise at all. TES exists on one timeline.

OT: No I probably wouldn't buy an HD collection. ...They've already modded most of the old games to be kinda like that.

Plus the "HD" collections from what I've seen so far are just higher resolutions (HD resolutions...) and Anti-aliasing the piss out of them.

No need for that on PC :D ...it's a feature we have by default >.>

If a Morrowind version in HD (reworked/better textures) came out for PC, my reaction would pretty much be:

It's my favourite game of all time, so having one less excuse to not play through it again would be great (I'm afraid I'm slightly allergic to older graphics)

I'm talking about games before Morrowind, ones that weren't released on consoles.

I knew someone would link that... you do realise that all that mod does is improve the water and the skyline right? Two things that were pretty much perfect to begin with, I might add :\

I don't know abut that one, but this one [http://forums.bethsoft.com/index.php?/topic/1216870-relz-morrowind-overhaul-sounds-graphics/] also improves things like the vast majority of textures, faces and bodies of NPCs, the quality of flora, adds things such as weather sounds indoors, windows lighting up at night, and new effects like HDR and god-rays. It's a pretty big improvement looks-wise.

Probably not. If the collection did more than add fucking worthless HD, then I'd probably consider it.

It doesn't look too bad at all to me. Looks like a hell of an improvement, actually.

But then, I didn't really watch the video much, I just knew about the mod and linked it.
That's because the video starts out with what it's actually sorted - the skybox and the water. Both of which are multitudes easier to change than everything else because they're single entities, compared to the 3D models of well... just about everything else that has it's own texture.

Watch the video when it shows a guard/house/ground/anything other than water/sky. Then compare it to the video of unmodded Morrowind - you won't see any difference.

OH GOD YES!
Release all of them together, with top-tier graphics and the first couple done in 3D and re-done...
Just update Morrowind and Oblvion with HD graphics AND a couple of mods thrown in (like better vampirism)
*begins drooling*

Remarkable work, thanks for that link! Still not on the level of a HD remake, but that's obviously too much to put on the modding community, particularly for a game this huge.

I'm definitely bookmarking that for the next time I feel like trying Morrowind out though, at least to see what it's like in the game for myself. I'd do it right now, but Skyrim's way too close for that :p

maybe, I certainly wouldn't mind Arena and daggerfall getting a morrowind or oblivion style upgrade but the newer games don't really need it. why pay for better textures when you can get a mod that does that for free?
