PoolCleaningRobot : oh wow... I wonder if the fish are legal in cali... Thanks for letting me know man! :D

wulf3n : it's been done before. They're just improving it or something so the risk of failure ought to be pretty low.

Desert Punk : I backed 40 too. I hope I don't screw it my seeds lol... I wonder if I can pick out the ones that grow the best and somehow make them grow brighter that way? hrmmmm... *-*
Desert Punk 2: I'm trying to obtain information on how to extract rose seeds... If I can grow the glowing roses then I think I'ma raise the 40->150.

Evil Smurf : yes it totally would save on lighting! Except no one has an idea of how bright it can get initially. And this is kinda the beta phase lol.

DVS BSTrD : lol... glowing poop ^^;

I won't buy just because I am become death, destroyer of all plant life, but it's still kinda cool. I wouldn't try eating them though.

Also not sure what they need 250k for. This seems like a project you could easily do for under 100k, maybe around 50k IMO (that's for just the science).
A common misconception people have with kickstarter. They didn't ask for 250K they've been given 250K by the public. They only asked for 65K, so it's not like they're being greedy or trying to fleece anyone.

As for what they're going to do with +250K how knows, but that's not their fault.
Oh shit my bad. That's a much more reasonable estimate of what the project would cost to do at least (IMO). As for your previous question. I don't know the science of plants too well to know if there would be any big hindrances, but I can't imagine it being particularly difficult based on the other work out there.

Imagine this as street lighting, no mains supply needed, nice shady street in the summer.

Probably not, they don't fit the sort of aesthetic theme I like at all. I can definitely see there being a big market for them though, its a great idea. But they just aren't something I would personally have inside/outside my house.

WouldYouKindly : Everything dies... until we find immortality that is! :D

Hoplon : HELL YEA! XD

slave23 : True, everyone to their own thing. What kinda aesthetic theme do you like? Also might it be possible to simply have different hues of colors for different places? or a different mix or theme? It's a dream but it's conceivable that street lights will be trees.

bioluminescent plants? that'd be awesome, it'd certainly be a feat of engineering, i'd pledge but they don't ship the seeds outside the US which is a damned shame

I always wanted trees covered in glowing mushrooms. Glowing plants are close enough.

DO IT, ENJOY! XD Glowing shroooooms! These are all natural... By the way, do you know anything about the shrooms? I wanted to grab em but I don't know if there are any dangers or harms or problems with fungus... like bugs... also it looks like the surrounding needs to be wet and warm. :x

Apparently I can't read, I thought the poll was about glowing pants when I voted.
Yeah, glowing plants sounds like a pretty cool thing, I'm just waiting for the mushrooms so I can recreate Blackreach.

hmm.. bio-luminescent plants. Hold up, I've got an idea for a sweet as fuck forest rave!

However, if I were to actually by one (or several) it (they) would probably (certainly) die within about a week. Or however long plants take to die.

I'm going to be completely honest. I came here, reading the title as "Glow in the dark Pants".

I was disappointed.

Although cool, I do find that the awesomeness would probably wear off quickly.

Yes. Yes, I really would love to have a bunch of glowing plants in my hypothetical home garden. This seems like a bad-ass project!

HNNNNG I'm conflicted.

On one hand: AWESOME
On the other I'm, worried about horizontal gene transfers to wild plants. I suppose there are worse traits to end up in the wild, but still...

bliebblob : Yea I know what you're talking about. The team working on this project talked a little bit about this subject. I'm sorry I've lost the exact site... I think it was a video on youtube. ^~^;; Something about this plant not having many cousins to breed with and how this is a negative trait for wild plants as it uses up more energy for no survival reasons making natural selection kill them out or something of the sort. I'm totally doing this from memory so I could be mistaken.

Shoggoth2588 : Yea! You should totally keep tabs on it. Maybe even share the link with a friend or something.

I hit no, because while I'm not opposed to the idea I just don't have a want or need. Maybe someday, maybe someday. '
