I own a PS3 and I definitely wouldn't buy L4D if it came out for my beloved console. The reasons being:

(a) It's an FPS.
(b) There would never be anyone online.
(c) I could buy it on Steam and save £15.
(d) It's an FPS.
he has a point. Other than Resistance and Killzone (it isn't out yet, but I know it will be awesome) I have never remembered the PS3 to excel at FPS's. The controller just doesn't work for those games. It's a controversial statement but I can't remember the last time I used a PS3 for an FPS game other than Resistance. As with what he says about no one online, i don't think that would be true. PS3's user base is building up, and, most likely, they might have PS3 developers working for Valve to help bring out the TF2 updates on PSN.

It should be PC exclusive because I'm sick of seeing potentially good games having quality limited by being designed so console ports will work.

Valve didn't say they hated the PS3, they said they weren't PS3 developers, also, to all the people at the beginning of the thread who enjoy watching console players suffer: It is coming out for 360.

And guys, I'm telling you, this isn't an "if" - Left 4 Dead is coming to the Ps3, and Valve are porting it themselves. They said they would port it to the Ps3 if it was a success on the 360 and the PC. Presales indicate its already a success. 2 and 2 make Left 4 Dead. In the meantime, Socom Confrontation calls. Bags playing as Spain.
Valve were kidding themselves when they said "If it's a success".

They knew fully well that it was going to be a success, it's Valve after all!

Personally, I don't care to much for Left 4 Dead, but I may pick it up if I see it and am interested.

This is most likely going to be a PC game. I've had the misfourtune of playing The Orange Box on both the 360 and the PS3, and it simply isn't happy there. Even the lack of updates aside, the games simply don't feel as fun when console-ized. You can tell they don't belong there.

I strongly suspect that Left4Dead will continue in this tradition, and as someone else said, it's a Steam game. Why the hell would you buy it any other way?

I had no problems playing the Orange Box on the 360. Left thumbstick moves and strafes, right thumbstick looks and turns, index finger on the trigger.
I don't own a PS3, due to the price and the lack of exclusive titles that interest me. But if it was between the 360 and the PS3 it'd depend on which controller I found more comfortable to use for 4 hours at a time.

From what I've heard strait from Valve is that they focus only on the PC releases themselves. It's EA that ports the games over to the consoles (well, console).
Well, mostly right. Valve did do the port to the Xbox 360 because it didn't take them all that much time to do so, what with the 360's architecture being so similar to the Pc's However, they weren't willing to spend the time trying to adapt the game to the PS3's completely different architecture, saying that it would take them far too long. So, EA did the remake for the PS3 and apparently it wasn't very good. Which is a shame, really.

Anyhow, the last I heard about this it's gonna be the same sort of deal for Left 4 Dead: Valve do the PC and 360 versions whilst EA are in charge of the port to the PS3. I think that means that even if L4D does come out on the PS3 it should probably be avoided.

I won't buy it for the ps3 because I have just got a new pc that will be able to play it.
however if its a choice between buying it for 360 or ps3 then i would buy it for ps3.

Really? Where did you hear that? Not that it'd surprise me after EA's hack job. However, there's been absolutely no concrete news about Valve developing Left 4 Dead for the PS3 whilst Kotaku reported this [http://kotaku.com/5032476/opm-left-4-dead-coming-to-ps3] not all that long ago. Fair enough it's a pretty damn vague rumour but we've not heard anything official from Valve about them developing for the PS3 yet either. It is mostly Gabe Newell that hates the PS3, since Doug Lombardi's came back saying that they respect it since the customer base has grown somewhat (funny that.)

Not a Spy

You forgot the most important part of porting to ps3 (the controls is easy compared to this what I will tell) is the jump from dx to opengl. Now if you do something wrong here there could be frame drop or bugs and so on.
