The internet suffers everyday with /b/, so I think its time to put it down... painlessly.

I can just ignore the bad stuff. Sure it has created some horrors. Does not mean I have to look at those horrors. Though destroying 4chan wouldn't be bad. Also some people may like shitting dick nipples... no one I can think of but I assume they exist. Your horror may be someone else's lunchtime entertainment.

Would I destroy the internet knowing the extent of the damage that would be done beyond the threat to my own personal entertainment? I don't know - if I were handed the power to bring the world to a crashing halt what good could come of it's execution? On the other hand, what purpose does such power serve if it's never leveraged?

Ever try not going to those places, dude? No I would not destroy the internet, my life is here. Actually hold on ... Yes. Yes I would destroy the internet if I had the chance, IF (that's a big if, by the way) and only if it got somehow in the complete control of Microsoft or some other large company. The internet is meant to be open and shared between everyone, and the moment it can't is the moment I remove it and do some good for the human race. But I'll back everything up to my personal quantum servers first ^_^

Way to lose perspective. The internet has spread more good and bad than any other mode of communication ever. Just because you're bad at avoiding shock-site traps doesn't mean everyone else should bend to your ideas.

Everyone with any idea how to avoid bad links has never accidentally looked at tentacle rape, while watching various insightful and entertaining comedy videos.

pretty much this, just cause you apparently go looking for freaky stuff (I've never heard of your example and I'm not entirely convinced you didn't make it up yourself) doesn't mean that somehow outweighs the huge scientific help the internet as been for both the professionals (communication over great distance) and the layman who can learn about pretty much any subject they need instantly for free (minus ISP service)

I remember life before this series of tubes, and you know, it wasn't bad. People were more into looking at each other when they socialized, rather than a monitor or a smart phone, listening to music was a more social affair, and pr0n was harder to come by, so it was ergo more taboo and for young men more rewarding when acquired, and it didn't have to be anything nastier than a Playboy. Those were simpler times, better times.

I'd kill it without a second thought.

The "shitting dick-nipples" thing is internetese for the worst of the Internet, supposedly based on a single Gurochan thread from a while ago. It is apparently a real thing, though I've carefully avoided the evidence it exists.

On certain sites and IRC channels, people tend to discuss this sort of "worst of the Internet" thing quite a bit. I've run into these discussions to a minor degree, though I don't take a role in looking for the worst the Web has to offer.
