Umm, I think you mean communist ideals. America already has socialist stuff in it. Socialism is just the idea that the government should control parts of industry/services. Which America's government does.

Also, if America had a "socialist" (taking this to mean slightly toned down communism, but I'd support communism as well) revolution I'd totally fight for it. Sorry, that's just how I role.
I think it's because Nazism is known as "National Socialism", so people assume socialism is automatically bad and related to fascism. Which of course it is not.
Yeah, either that or as I mentioned the immediate link between Socialism and Communism. Socialists just can't win can they?

Wales yes, United Kingdom NO, NOT EVER!
I just feel more pride and nationality for Wales, than England, who's only reason for commanding my respect is that a few hundred years ago they killed alot of the Welsh and took their land.

When you say 'country' do you meant he arbitrarily defined political borders? Or the governmental body? Not that it really matters, I wouldn't intentionally die for either.

I mean, I guess if someone invaded, and I had a gun, I'd tried to shoot guys or something.

This country means nothing. I was born on this piece of land and not another, just as someone decided this piece of land would be named Canada. I would not die in the name of Canada just as would not die in the name of any other piece of land. The only thing that makes Canada worth while for me is that all the people I care about are here.

For me yes. If your not willing to die for it, then why live there? You obviously don't love it there very much.
For me, yes I would. However that depends. If my countries being invaded then damn skippy I'm going to take to arms. But if given a scenario such as these ambiguous wars like Vietnam and the War in Iraq then I demand to know WTF I'm fighting for.

In short yes.

To someone from a refugee family some of the responces are downright disgusting in how entitled some people are. My family came over from Cuba where they stripped us of everything, the U.S gave it back and then some. It allowed me to earn a living and my family to regain their dignity.

If the time came where my country needed me I'd gladly falsify my medical papers and serve, kill, or, if need be, die for it. Until then I'll keep paying my taxes, donating to Veteran programs, making well informed votes, and staying active in my community.
You sir, bring a smile across my face. I admire your patriotism and what you believe in.

Absolutely not. Hell, I wouldn't die for anything or anyone short of my immediate family. I want to live.
Hehehe the Vlad the Impaler picture explains it well XD.

Not making fun of you, just making an observation. I'm not one to judge you on your choice

No I wouldnt die for my country.
If the prime minister(president or whoever happens to be running your country) was stupid enough to start a war over something then they can go and fight and die for it. Leave me out of it so I can enjoy living.

If it was for a cause that I thought was worthy and people just decided to attach that death to being "for the country", then sure.

Otherwise, I wouldn't die for the sake of one nation, a death that would most likely have no impact on it whatsoever.

I voted no. I'm not willing to die for my country, but I'm also not willing to die for my school either. I live here, and I love it here, so by your logic it must be the same thing right?

It's not that I don't support the military or that I don't respect the people who have made that choice to fight, but the way you phrased it gives the impression that anyone who is not willing to END THEIR EXISTENCE because of geographic location is a bad person. That's ridiculous.

I myself am a non-violent person by nature. I've always been the type to fight people with words and dialogue rather than fists or bullets. While I do understand the thought process behind violence, it seems to me that the toll is too great to justify it.

Death is a permanent sacrifice for a temporary problem. Call me unpatriotic, call me a hippie, sissy, or whatever else you can come up with, but if it came down to me living in America and it asking me to die for it or moving somewhere else, I'll just go ahead and pack my bags.

Straight-forward, my ass. Do you think there might have be a difference between how you'd view a German citizen who was willing to die for his country seventy years ago and one who'd die for it today?

The question itself demands a completely undeserved respect. There are far too many people who see no dissonance in suggesting that dying "for your country" means you have to be willing to fight, kill, and die in some country halfway around the world for the tangentially related reasons that have been dreamed up by some schmuck in a suit who will never get closer to actual combat than a few PR photos taken in a green zone while they wear a flak jacket and are surrounded at all times by a heavily armed security detail.

There's a lot I love about my country. There are also elements in my country that I can easily imagine coming into power and doing such despicable things that I would feel deeply conflicted about foreign powers deciding it had to be reined in even if the cost was a terrible one.

I would die for my family. I would die for people I loved. Without context, "Would you die for your country, yes or no?" deserves nothing but my contempt.
